A few biz closures to note

Written by | The Bellingham Herald | July 28, 2011

– Over at Bellis Fair, the Build-a-Bear Workshop left earlier this month. It was in the center area of the mall, near Victoria’s Secret.

– In the Macy’s wing, the store Woolies is having a going-out-of-business sale.

– It appears the Auction Barn Cafe in Lynden has shut down. The phone isn’t being answered and a few readers have reported legal notices posted on the front of the cafe.

I heard that Costco and Walmart were moving out towards Ferndale . . . do you know if there is any truth in this??

    Hi Deb,

It’s been long-rumored (dating back to 2006, when Walmart wanted to expand its current Bellingham store into a Super Walmart, but an emergency moratorium was put in place by the City Council) that Costco and Walmart have been looking to move north of Bellingham but there’s been no official announcement from either companies, nor any building permits filed that I’ve seen.

Over the years local developers have said inquiries have been made on various plots of land near Ferndale by several big-box companies. We’ll continue to keep checking to see if anything develops.
