Written by | The Bellingham Herald | October 30, 2012

I wrote about it’s liquor license application last month, but below is the official announcement that it is coming to Bellingham. It’s going into 114 Stuart Road (in the shopping center that’s home to Big 5 Sporting Goods, near Walmart). I’ll try to track down the details on an opening date:

BevMo! to Open Four More Locations in Washington State

Neighborhood specialty beverage retailer BevMo! set to open stores in Bellevue, Northgate, Bellingham and Ballard

Seattle, Wash. — Oct. 30, 2012 –BevMo! (Beverages & More!), the ultimate neighborhood specialty beverage retailer, today announced it will open four more retail locations in Washington state in the communities of Bellevue, Northgate, Bellingham and Ballard. In addition to the three BevMo! locations that recently opened in Tacoma, Silverdale, and Tukwila, Seattle area residents in Bellevue, Northgate and Ballard will now be able to experience BevMo!’s unique and fun “one-stop” specialty beverage shopping experience in their own backyard.  The new Bellingham location will be the first BevMo! store outside the greater Seattle vicinity. Both the Bellevue and Northgate stores will open this November with Bellevue opening November 9th followed by the Northgate BevMo! opening on November 16th.

Just in time for the holidays, BevMo! will also introduce its new 2 for 1 Wine Sale for Washington State residents in November. The BevMo! 2 for 1 Wine Sale will allow Washingtonians to choose from over 50 selected wines – including Coppola Pavilion Chardonnay, Norton Barrel Select Malbec, and Sterling Limited Release Meritage – and get two bottles for the price of one.

“Not only are we excited to join four more neighborhoods in Washington, but in celebration of these openings, we are introducing a fantastic 2 for 1 Wine Sale. At all Washington state BevMo! locations, customers can purchase two bottles of select wine for the price of one, or stock up with two cases of wine for the price of one during the sale,” said Alan Johnson, CEO of BevMo!. “BevMo’s 2 for 1 Wine Sale is sure to make any holiday event a merry one! At BevMo! we believe in the celebration of beverages and we can’t wait to offer four more convenient locations for Washingtonian beverage lovers to discover something new, or easily find their favorite bottle of wine, spirits, or beer.“

The new stores will include world-class tasting rooms, beer growler stations, and thousands of wines, spirits and beers that have been carefully chosen by BevMo!’s team of experts. These BevMo! experts curate each product to ensure they carry not only the best imports and national brands, but also a vast selection from local Washington wineries, craft distillers and brewers. BevMo! is truly the home of beverage innovation, where brands often launch their newest products. And unlike other beverage retailers, BevMo! is a unique and fun experience, offering  friendly, approachable experts and a large selection of specialty snacks, cheeses, glass and party ware that help make any occasion a hit. Whether you are looking for caviar for that special date or your favorite tasty root beer from our inventory of thousands of craft sodas, BevMo! is your one-stop destination for celebration.

BevMo! is planning a series of fun and exciting events to celebrate the upcoming opening of the Bellevue and Northgate store locations. Don’t miss the grand opening morning at each store, where the first 500 customers will each receive a complimentary gift bag valued at over $50 that includes barware, mixers and tasty snacks – enough fun in a bag to get their own party started!  And the fun doesn’t stop there – customers can stop by to enjoy wine and beer tastings and cocktail demonstrations throughout the entire grand opening weekend. Exact schedule and details of the grand opening weekend events will be announced early November.

When you get two for one, how does the tax work? Is just the total revenue taxed? Or is it by the bottle regardless of cost?

  2. Walter Haugen says:

This is good news. Now maybe Haggens and the other grocery stores will have to actually be competitive.

  3. Kay says:

RC- There is a 20.5% tax on the total $ cost, not subject to additional WA State sales tax, then there’s an additional $3.7708 per liter tax on top of the 20.5%. Hope this helps.

  4. betteleal says:

the state liquor sales tax is way toooo high. Just another “sin” tax targeted against specific individuals. Drinking and smoking is prefectly legal, why are they taxed so heavily? It is all “social engineering” by your politicians in Olympia.

At least now you have a competitive market for your liquor purchases. That was long time coming and way overdue. Let the free market work and prices will go down, except for the tax increases to the state.

Being from Nevada, we don’t consider “drinking and smoking” as sins. Americans should be free to indulge in any lawful activity without being penalized for a specific purchase.

  5. Eileen says:

Wine is not taxed like hard liquor. If we could have passed the first vote 3 years ago we would not have had the high taxes on it. That being said, YEA, love Bev MO, shopped the one in Santa Rosa all the time when visiting our daughter.

  6. Bhsmborn says:

Woopty do, I just looked at their website and their prices (not counting WA taxes) are higher then places already in Bellingham.

  7. Newman says:

Where will this sore be located? Big 5 is in the mall, not by Walmart. Maybe it will go in the the Joe’s/HomeBase building?
