The Seattle P-I has an article about Costco making a big change to its hot dog-soda combo. No, it’s not the price, which is $1.50, but to its soda brand. Starting in April, the company plans to switch the fountain drink from Coke to Pepsi.
Here’s a (link) to the story.
Given how popular the combo is (109 million combos sold last year alone, according to the article), it’ll be interesting to see what kind of reception this change will get. I’m guessing the price remains the big attraction for many Costco shoppers.

Makes no difference to me. The dog is all I’m after. Who needs the soda? And for that price, the dog alone is a good deal.
Not big news up here at least…..This region has had Pepsi (much to my dismay) for quite some time.
ewwwwww…..dirty hot dogs and soda from Costco? Costco and Wal-Mart defines America to a tee.
@Kevin, I hadn’t really thought about it before, but I agree. It does seem like you see more Pepsi fountain drinks at eateries in this region than Coke.
Thanks for responding Dave. BTW, that wasn’t a dig on your reporting I was just saying it’s not a big change here but it is for Costco and Coke.
This is newsworthy?
You see more Pepsi soda fountains in this area because we have an excellent local distributor. Walton Beverage — the Walton family has made a good number of generous contributions to local nonprofits like the Mount Baker Theater and many others. They are a very well-run business that out hustle other distributors in the area.
My company does a lot of business with them because they are local, their service is top notch, and they are an excellent employer of quality people….
The coke/costco deal is a nationally brokered bid — coke won. Local Coke distribution is from a corporate depot in Bellevue — they are nice people too, not as much staff in the area but their service is good.
@Kevin, didn’t think a dig was there; my “reporting” only involved pointing out the P-I article.
@The Dude, Not newsworthy, just something to talk about on a Friday afternoon. You would be amazed at how many people think it’s a big deal.
The Costco here has had Pepsi for months.
The P-I did say some regions have already made the switch, I haven’t had a chance to check the Bellingham Costco recently.
If I want a soda, I want the real thing! Pepsi is much too sweet for me. From the looks of a lot of people in Bellingham, they could do with a LOT less sugar!
