Birch Bay restaurant reopens

Written by | The Bellingham Herald | March 1, 2013

Via Birch Bay Cafe and Bistro has reopened, having recovered from the winter storm and high tide damage on Monday, Dec. 17.

According to its Facebook page, the restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. It may begin serving breakfast again at a later date.

The cafe is on the water side of Birch Bay Drive and appeared to suffer the most damage from the Dec. 17 storm, becoming swamped with water and debris when a higher-than-normal surge combined with a strong low-pressure system at high tide.

The cafe is at 7829 Birch Bay Drive.

Glad to hear they are getting back on their feet again, but this has always been a problematic building site, it is not the first time it has been damaged and forced closed by similar extraordinarily high tide flows.
