Just got a press release from maurices, a women’s clothing store company that’s going into Bellis Fair.
The store is planning for a July opening and will be taking up 3,919 square feet of space. It currently has 15 stores in Washington. The company has been in business since 1931, focusing on styles for young women. They’ll also be selling clothing accessories like jewelry.

Hi Dave,
I believe that Maurices was here back in the 1980′s, located in the 1400 block of Cornwall Avenue. If it is the same firm, its a Minnesota owned mid-level (???) woman’s clothing store. A quick check of their website indicates they are owned by the Dress Barn and have stores in Burlinton, Oak Harbor, Wenatchee, and Union Gap. If the same firm, they came and stayed so long as the loonie stayed strong. Under the Dress Barn ownership, it will be interesting to see how they do in this market. Having other locations around the state, possibly they are interested in local sales as opposed to exploiting the Canadian $$$. The parent, Dress Barn operates on the NASDQ: DBRN and has a scheduled investor conference call at 4:30 ET (1:30 PDT) which might be interesting to listen to. They apparently had a strong 3rd qtr.
Cheers,
John
Opp,
The conference call is scheduled for tomorrow, 5/26.

John,
Thanks for the info! I’ll check and see if I can dig up some local history on them. – Dave
