Interesting data on retail trends during holiday season

Written by | The Bellingham Herald | January 3, 2013

For shoppers still doing holiday shopping on Christmas Eve, Target or Walmart were apparently the places to be.

A national analytic firm called Placed released a report about foot traffic during the holiday shopping season at some of the busiest U.S. stores. Here’s a (link) to the report.

It turns out Target’s busiest day was Dec. 24, followed by Dec. 15 and Dec. 22 (known as Super Saturday). For Walmart, Dec. 24 was its second busiest day, followed by Dec. 23.

Kohl’s was the only retailer on the list that had the day after Christmas crack the top 3 busiest days in December.

Because of the way Thanksgiving fell on the calendar, this past holiday shopping season had a few extra shopping days.  Even with those extra days, plenty of people still waited until the last minute to finish their holiday shopping.
