Edaleen Dairy will be opening a second Whatcom County dairy retail store next week in Sumas.

It’ll be at 908 Cherry St., opening on Wednesday, June 1. Once open, the store hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The company currently has a store at 9593 Guide Meridian in Lynden.

According to a company press release, the new store will care the same items as the current store, including milk, ice cream, cheese, butter, eggs, yogurt, and fruit drinks.

The strong Canadian dollar was a factor in opening a second store, said Scott Engels, Chief Financial Officer for the company. He said the store should also be a draw to the Sumas community, particularly the ice cream products.

Ice cream cones will be available in soft serve and hard ice cream.   The soft serve machine will have vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate-vanilla swirl cones. Edaleen will have more than 30 ice cream flavors for hard ice cream cones with 12 different flavors available at all times. Milk shakes and espresso will also be available.

All of the milk and  ice cream is processed at the plant by the Lynden store and comes from a herd of 2,500 milking cows north of Lynden.
