Fire preempts blogging for today

    Just write like you talk. By the time you are finishing telling the story with your fingers on the keyboard, you will have your blog done. Double up on time. Time is a wasting….

    What kind of insurance does the district have on the school? Used to be when a large old building burned in town you could usually see that it was clearly in the interest of urban renewal. In this case???? Take the insurance money and spread the kids around? Most likely not, but I remember watching many of the old buildings not worthy of rebuild or in disrepair in town burn down and they were often replaced by Bank buildings or housing and Starbucks. Look out Clover Building and Herald building

    As of last Friday, school officials told me they expect their insurance policy to cover the full amount of their loss. It’s early yet. Much to be learned and written. Stay tuned.

    John Stark writes consumer protection stories for The Bellingham Herald. He also covers the Port of Bellingham, energy and tribal issues, and writes a monthly restaurant review.

    Stark joined this newspaper in 1981. He held previous reporting jobs at The Vincennes, (Ind.) Sun-Commercial, followed by seven years at The El Paso Times.

    He left The Bellingham Herald in 1989 and spent much of the 1990s teaching journalism at Whatcom Community College before returning to the newsroom in 2000.

    He grew up in New Jersey and Indiana and graduated from Yale University in 1972 with a bachelor's in English. He earned his journalism master's degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1973.

    He won a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship at the University of Michigan for 1978-79, and studied Spanish and Latin American history.
