EVERETT — A suspected drunk driver from Bellingham was accused of almost running over a Washington State Patrol sergeant early Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Sgt. Chris Caiola was helping a disabled vehicle on Highway 204 just east of Everett at 12:35 a.m. when an eastbound car brushed past him. He suffered scratches to his elbow. Caiola ran to his cruiser and stopped the 23-year-old driver about a mile to the east, said Trooper Keith Leary.

Troopers suspect the woman was under the influence. Leary did not identify her.

However, a 23-year-old Bellingham woman, Heather M. Anthony, was booked into Snohomish County Jail by the state patrol early Tuesday morning on charges consistent with the crimes: reckless endangerment, driving under the influence and hit and run.

Caiola refused aid.

The sergeant was featured in a 2011 Seattle Times story about another time he was struck by a suspected drunk driver — this time as he sat in his patrol car parked along Interstate 5.
