The lead story is at the top of this post. More morning scanner chatter is at the bottom.
Via police scanner traffic:
Police got several calls about 11 a.m. reporting a burning car in a field next to Trigg Road. Here’s what we tweeted:

As of 11:45 a.m., the cops were still looking for their suspect. A witness reported seeing him get dropped off in front of a day care on Portal Way — not sure which block. He walked west toward Interstate 5, then turned north, the witness said. Dispatchers were referring to him as “Junior.” Police dogs were trying to track him.
Police called a home just south of the day care a “residence of interest.” They were also scouring a converted chicken coop on Portal Way where the suspect, or accomplices, might live.
Update at 1 p.m. The suspect was detained on Interstate 5, just south of Slater Road. Story to come when we get confirmed info.
