Roundup of Bellingham police weekend activity

It was busy weekend for the cops in Bellingham. Here are a few newsworthy things that won’t be in the print edition of the paper.

First, the death investigation of a 25-year-old Ferndale man.

Dylan James Boatman was found unresponsive at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Railroad Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

A Monday morning autopsy found no inflicted trauma on his body, said Whatcom County Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel. The death is still under investigation, pending the results of toxicology tests.

Second, a domestic violence assault led to a brief police standoff at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. Here’s a verbatim summary of the police report, as transcribed by Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young.

A 23 year old female victim called 911 from a friend’s home stating her husband of several years had physically assaulted her by punching her while they were both in their car driving in Bellingham. The victim was able to get out of the vehicle and when chased by the suspect, she was able to get back into the vehicle to drive off leaving him behind. The victim drove to a friend’s home to call 911.
The suspect was located at the couple’s home in the 1300 block of Ellis Street. Officers could see that the alleged suspect was home but he refused to come to the door. A search warrant was served on the residence and a K-9 was deployed when the suspect continued to refuse lawful commands.
The suspect, 43 year old Kenneth Eagle, was taken into custody, transported to hospital for treatment then booked into Whatcom County Jail for Assault 4th DV [domestic violence].
The victim in the assault refused medical treatment. Alcohol is believed to be factor.

And third, here are a few details we didn’t have in this story about a stabbing on East Sunset Drive.

Police said Christopher R. Morissette attacked a 2001 Hyundai car that was stopped for traffic. Several gouges from a 3- to 4-inch serrated blade caused about $900 in damage. Nobody was hurt in the bizarre and apparently random attack on the car. Young noted the suspect was “acting drugged out.”

And a possible 4th story that was either unreported to police or under the Herald’s radar is the one about my son getting jumped downtown early Saturday morning.
Apparently some ass wipe ripped off his shirt and, with fists flailing, charged after my son, an experienced mixed martial artist.
Maybe that was the guy they found in the parking lot, behind my building, downtown.

huh? really? your are hoping a young man found dead , unexplained next to his truck is some one your son may have killed? how sick are you?
He had a family who loved him and is struggling to find out what happened.

    Scary place

Dead bodies don’t show up too often in Bellingham; why isn’t this a bigger story?

  5. Camille … u have no heart … dylan was a yound man newly married with young baby @ home …

  6. Brianne on said:

I know Dylan, can’t imagine what happened. Good kid, not a druggie, new baby and wife. I can’t fathom why a 25 yr old would drop like that.

  7. You haven’t lived here long have you Camille? “dead bodies don’t show up too often in Bellingham”…umm more than most would like to think.

    @ snoodles,
I don’t know how you read that into my comment; I would however appreciate more info on this story.
Had I thought my son was involved with this man’s death I would not have commented on it.
I have my own impression as to what caused Mr. Boatman’s untimely demise based on what’s been entered about him on the Washington State Court’s website.
I also believe the story is more newsworthy than a mere mention of it on the Dispatcher blog. (No offense intended, Caleb.)

  9. My condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Boatman, and I apologize if I appear insensitive.
I live on the 1100 block of Railroad Avenue.
I have a parking space in the lot where the body of the deceased was found, and although I feel safe there during the day I avoid going there late at night because it is not a safe place to be.
It is not surprising that I would like more info about the circumstances that surround the events that led to Mr. Boatman’s death; had this happened in your (collective) neighborhood I’m sure the residents who live there would feel the same.
The residents of the buildings on my block participate in a program called ‘Neighborhood Watch, which is a police-sponsored civilian organization formed to prevent crime and vandalism within a circumference of where we live.
I’d like to know if any of the residents on my block have been questioned by the police for any information which could be provided to help with their investigation?
Had it been a loved one of mine who’d been found dead I would want as much publicity and information about what had caused it.

I heard that he was in fact on drugs..either meth or heroin. Sad. Yes, I know his family.

@Camille and the coward who wont even enter their name,

You need to get a grip on your hateful and unfounded rants.
My son was an amazing love filled young man who had one run in with the law numerous years ago. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and even the victim in the case stated that my son did nothing.

You hide behind a computer and post slander about someone who just died and left a beautiful wife and newborn baby as well as a large and very close family of law abiding citizens. Dylan was NOT on drugs never touched heroine or meth in his life and if had the courage to say these things to my face I welcome it, as I show you the results of toxicology reports to prove my words.

Unplug your computers and go get yourselves some help and stop taking out your lack of a life on innocent grieving people.
Dylan has 200+ loved ones attending his services Sat. How many meth heads do you know that would or have had that?

Come see us Sat and learn about the person you are slandering with no fact or basis to back it up.
Nothing but vile hearts spewing trash.

    God help you.

  13. Dylans mother on said:

AND to the coward who remains nameless but claims to know us, step out of the shadows and show yourself. Because I do not know a human being who would post such ignorant slander about my son.
You do NOT know us and you do NOT know anything about my son.
Theres a public facebook page for his funeral, identify yourself and back up your supreme knowledge on my son.

  14. Mrs. Boatman,
I am very sorry for the loss of your son, and for the grief that your family and friends are experiencing.

  15. Dylans mother on said:

Dont try to take those words back now Camille. Its way too late. The moment you thought them was the moment to take them back.
If youre so sorry take my advice and get yourself some help.
My name is not Mrs Boatman.

  16. You have misinterpreted my words; understandable under the circumstances.
Again, I am sorry for your loss.

  18. Dylans mother on said:

You disgraced my sons memory by even bringing up this one time run in with the law Camille.
And you nameless one disgraced his memory with pure lies.

Live with that. I’m sure you’ll have no problem.

  19. Camille on said:

    Ok, “mom”, cough.
    I get it now.
    Feeding time is over.
    Shame on you.

  20. Matt Groen on said:

Dylan was an awesome guy. We were pretty close friends for a few years. He wasn’t ever on drugs and loved his family very much. It is very sad that he passed away, i wish i could make the funeral, but i am a few states away, my heart goes out to rach and the family.

  21. snoodles on said:

Camille. just stop. It IS probably Dylans Mom. She is one fierce Mama Bear. Let it go. If its not really her, trust me she has LOTS of friends ( as did Dylan and his entire family) who will defend and stand up for her and the family. Sad thing is, you talked about your son. How would you feel if random people made insulting, untrue, disgusting remarks about his sudden death? and lots of assumptions. let it go.

  22. Dylans mother on said:

My name is Valorie Leaupepetele and I AM Dylans mom.
Now tell me your last name “Camille”. Stop hiding behind a computer.
You should be utterly ashamed of yourself for horrendous attack on a grieving family and the memory of a young man you never knew.
Shut your mouth and go back under your rock.

  23. Dylans mother on said:

We love you too Matt and to Snoodles, Im guessing we know you too. Thank you for your defense of my fine son. THIS is what kind of man he was, to be remembered like this.
NO ONE will remember him otherwise.

  24. My husband and I knew Dylan, I didn’t know him well but he went to high school with my husband and youth group with me. We wish we could be there for the service but now live in a different state. Stand up for your son, Valorie! He was a great man with a beautiful family. We spent superbowl Sunday with them this year and we were both devastated when we found out about his death.

And to Camille: That IS Dylan’s mom, we know their family members through CHURCH! Have some respect.

  25. Dylans mother on said:

Thank you SNGiGi. Thank you for speaking the truth. <3

Any update on Dylan and what must have happened? I grew up in the same neiborhood as him and spent a lot of time with one of his sisters when we were young. I would run into him in town once and a while and he always had the biggest smile! He was such a great guy! Lots a love to his amazing family and to his wife and young daughter.

  27. Usually, it takes from six to eight weeks for the toxicology report to come back. I’ll post an update when the report is finished. Sorry for the loss of your friend. -Caleb
