BELLINGHAM — Nobody was hurt when a Honda Civic clipped the back of a parked car on Flora Street, smashed into the side of a pickup and landed on its roof Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 20.
Police suspect the driver, Billy Joe Pinnell, 23, was under the influence of heroin. He was driving a dark green Honda west at 3:15 p.m. in the 200 block of Flora Street when its front right wheel hit the rear left wheel of a parked, older model Mercedes E-500.
Somehow, the Honda flipped over.
The back of the Honda pinballed into an oncoming Ford F-150, causing minor damage to both vehicles and stripping off the driver’s side mirror of the truck. Police were confounded by how the car flipped so quickly, when the evidence suggested it was going the speed limit.
“You tell me,” said Sgt. Mark Stokes. “I have no idea how a vehicle in that short a space can tip like that.”
Another officer chimed in that the rubber-on-rubber of the Honda’s wheel hitting the Mercedes’ wheel might have caused enough friction for the car to flip.
Danna Bowers, who witnessed the crash, was just as confounded as the cops.
“It happened so fast and I’m still trying to figure out how it’s even possible,” she said.
Pinnell was led from the scene wrapped in a blue blanket and smoking a cigarette.

It saddens me how negative people leaving comments are. This boy did a terrible thing and it absolutely was his own doing. I agree jail os where he needs to be, for himself and aocieties benefit. Have any of you dealt with someone you care about struggle with addiction? If you have nothing constructive to say, why say anything at all? With so much free one on your hands it would be nice if you found something useful to do.

I second what Local girl said. I was shocked by the negative comments made.
NO mention of the girl who was also in the car, got out and was rifling through her bag before the driver was even out. Luckilly there were tons of people on the scene trying to help and make sure everything was okay. I was only one of the people calling the cops- good response- fast and thorough. It was absolutely crazy-how a car could do that in that way I have no idea- but we were lucky to be one car behind it all and not in the path. Please do not take heroin and drive around. Bad idea.

I think everyone hear needs to check themselves for one mhl if you were really there then you would know that the “girl” in the car got out second because the driver helped her out! And for Told you so her sister said thank god your alive and that a car is only a car because she’s smart enough to know that people make mistakes and a car is replaceable and people are not as for Xxxxx she doesn’t have to explain anything about being high because she doesn’t do drugs if you knew her you would know that. It amazes me how everyone here has time to make comments about something someone else did, a mistake, when I am sure you all have made a bad decision once or twice in your life. What ya’ll should be saying is thank you god that no one got hurt and let this remind you that accidents happen, maybe it will remind you to tell someone you care about that you love them before it’s too late. People need to get a life!! Makes me sick that you comment on how bad the people in the crash are when you all have nothing better to do then make yourselves look like fools with your unsubstantiated facts. The boy in the crash maybe a junkie but you are all addicts to the cyber world of negative comments and nothing better to do then spreading gossip and lies. If you know the truth that’s fine but leave the reporting to the pro’s because you guys suck at it. If you ask me I would take a heroin addict over you any day because at least I am sure he’s aware he has a problem!!
