Here’s a colorful recap of this year’s National Night Out event, written by David Doll of Whatcom Unified Emergency Management.
The post also covers home emergency kits, how to make a family emergency plan that goes “beyond screaming” and general neighborhood preparedness.
Also, I spoke with Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young earlier this week about the event. He had a couple of things he’s going to pass on to whoever organizes the event next year. (And he hopes to be a big part of the planning again.)
- It’d be good to have a business sponsor, so people can get some “schwag.” T-shirts, hats — that kind of thing.
- More coordination with neighborhood associations. Some of the smaller events could come together to make a larger event.
- Assign someone to hop from place to place, taking photos. Pictures would get posted to the city’s website.
