This fawn was picked up in north Bellingham by Washington State Trooper Scott Brown after he responded to a report of an adult deer killed by a truck on Tuesday evening, July 10.

According to Trooper Mark Francis:

Brown showed up about 6:55 p.m. to southbound Interstate 5 near the Northwest Avenue exit. Other deer in the area stayed back, but the orphaned fawn ran up to him and wouldn’t leave. It nuzzled against him and started “mewing.”

“Eh, now what do I do,” Brown wondered.

He picked up the deer and loaded it into his cruiser, then snapped the photo and drove it down to an animal shelter in Arlington.

There, troopers hope it’s being rehabilitated. I’ve got a call out to the wildlife center to get an update on how the little guy is doing.
