A crash blocked the intersection of East Bakerview Road and Northwest Avenue for about an hour Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 6, but nobody suffered life-threatening injuries.
Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young said all injuries were minor in the 12:10 p.m. crash. He didn’t have many details in the minutes following the crash, but expected to give out some info when the cops finish their reports.
Here’s the Twitter feed as it happened, from our @bhamcrime account:

Update at noon Wednesday, Nov. 7.
According to the Bellingham Police Department:
A woman in her 80s was driving an eastbound ’97 Chevy Blazer at the traffic light on Bakerview. The left turn light had changed to red by the time she turned left, heading northbound. An oncoming ’04 Volvo S80 hit her.
No serious injuries for the humans involved, and “no dog injuries” mentioned in the police report, said Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young.
The Chevy driver was cited for failing to yield.

A toxicology report confirmed Joel T. Crowley, 72, had been drinking alcohol before he rolled through the intersection of Custer School and Birch Bay-Lynden roads last month.
Crowley was killed in the crash Sept. 3. Here’s the story we ran when it happened.
Whatcom County Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel confirmed the results of the toxicology report Monday morning, Oct. 1.

This story about Frank L. Clark, who died last week in a motorcycle crash on Mount Baker Highway, mentioned a head-on crash that happened a few weeks earlier at the same intersection.
Matt Waldman, a roofer who’s quoted in the story, sent me these photos showing the aftermath of the Sept. 6 crash. (Thanks, Matt.) The pickup driver suffered a nasty gash to his face, but in the end, both drivers were OK.

A crash on southbound Interstate 5 near the Slater Road exit Saturday afternoon, Aug. 18, left one person with minor injuries and slowed traffic.
Report of teen injured but conscious in southbound I-5 crash, south of Slater Road exit. See
@wsdot_traffic cams. ow.ly/d46n4— Bellingham Herald (@BhamHerald) August 18, 2012
Over the police scanner, I heard an 18-year-old man had suffered an injury to his head and was bleeding, but he was conscious.
As bad as that might sound at first blush, a hurried Washington State Patrol trooper told me the injuries were minor. If the teen was taken to the hospital, it would have only been as a precaution, said Sgt. Kirk Rudeen.
Nonethless, the crash stalled traffic for at least a half an hour. Within a few minutes the right lane was reopened, and cars were able to crawl through.
Department of Transportation cams showed a big traffic jam, backed up past the Smith Road overpass. And on the scanner, it sounded like there was a “fender bender” at the same time on that very overpass.
If we end up getting a media release about the freeway crash, I’ll update this post.

A 94-year-old woman suffered a “sore forehead” in a crash near the Samish Way on-ramp Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 15.
Harriet Dixon was driving a 2000 Buick Century northbound on Samish Way about 3:25 p.m., when she started a left turn onto Lincoln Street at the stoplight. She didn’t yield to an oncoming 2002 Volkswagen Passat, and the two cars crashed “pretty much head on,” said Bellingham Police Sgt. Shawn Aiumu.
The Passat driver, 19, and a 20-year-old passenger were unhurt.
Dixon, who suffered a head injury, was ticketed. Nobody else was in her car. The police report didn’t note if she was taken to the hospital as a precaution; regardless, her injuries weren’t life-threatening. Bellingham Fire Department spokespeople haven’t responded to a message I left about an hour before this post.
(And on kind of a lighter note, callers originally reported the woman appeared to be about 80 years old. Turned out she was born in June 1918. “Must look good for a 94-year-old,” Aiumu said.)
Update at 4 p.m. Got a call back from the Bellingham Fire Department. Dixon wasn’t taken to the hospital.

A crash on northbound Interstate 5 involving a minivan, a pickup and two cars stalled traffic for about an hour south of Ferndale late Thursday, July 26, but nobody suffered serious injuries.
About 9:45 p.m., a northbound Mazda minivan in the left lane was slowing down to let traffic merge, just south of the Slater Road exit, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary.
(Because of construction, the right lane was blocked off with big, orange traffic cone barrels.)
A Ford pickup behind the Mazda didn’t slow down in time and clipped the back left corner of the minivan, Leary said.
That caused a chain reaction: The minivan spun off to the right side of the road. The driver of an approaching Volvo F80 slammed on the brakes. The Volvo spun out and went into the median. A Honda Civic skidded into some debris on the freeway.
Both lanes were blocked until about 11 p.m.
One person was taken to St. Joseph hospital as a precaution, for something that “really wasn’t even an injury,” Leary said.
The Ford driver, who is from Acme, was ticketed for speed too fast for conditions — a blanket infraction that can be used for traffic and weather conditions.
“People, once they’re in a construction zone, need to slow down,” Leary said. “We’re thankful there were no workers there at the time.”
In Washington state, fines double in a construction zone. Crews have been installing fiber optic cables along that stretch of Interstate 5.
The Mazda and the Honda had British Columbia plates. The Volvo driver was from Bellingham.

Via scanner traffic:
A motorcyclist collided with a truck on Slater Road near Interstate 5 Wednesday afternoon, July 11.
Initial reports suggested a man was thrown about 15 feet from his motorbike at 5:05 p.m. Sounded like he was conscious, but not moving because of back pain.
This comes on the same day police said motorcyclist Christopher Whitbeck had died. On Tuesday, Whitbeck hit a stopped Nissan Titan head-on in Bellingham. Police said he was thrown about 65 feet and died later at St. Joseph hospital.

Via police scanner traffic:
One person was taken to St. Joseph hospital after a head-on crash Saturday evening, July 7, at the intersection of James Street and East Bakerview Road.
Officers described “extensive damage” to the front end of one of the vehicles, but all four tires were still on the ground. The driver was not responding — at least when the call first came in about 7:20 p.m. — because of injuries to the head.
Police informed dispatchers the driver of the other vehicle, possibly a Jeep Liberty, was “fine.” There were no other passengers in either automobile.
Genders, ages, etc., weren’t mentioned over the scanner.

And while I’m posting photos of recent crashes, here’s a few shots submitted to us of last Saturday’s rollover on Noon Road.
(The photos were emailed to me a few hours after I left work, right as I was going on a short vacation. But let’s get them on the record.)
We wrote up a quick blurb about this one, from what I heard over the scanner, when it happened last week. Here it is again:
A man was taken to St. Joseph hospital after a crash into a ditch in the 5900 block of Noon Road on Saturday evening, June 30.
About 6:45, the man called 911 to report he was trapped inside the vehicle. Nobody else was inside. The crash was described as a rollover.
When firefighters arrived the driver was still trapped, so they pulled him out and transported him to the hospital. Sounded like the most serious injury was to one of his arms.
And here are a few photos, submitted by reader Maia Harris. Appears the driver was able to walk under his own power right after the crash, but he was still lifted into the ambulance on a gurney because of the arm injury.
