A Bellingham gas station attendant was assaulted at the pumps this week after an argument with a customer, police said.
Hezekiah Rhodes, 67, of Blaine, rolled his 1988 Chevy pickup into the Meridian Super Mart, 4130 Meridian St., at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, and got out to pump gas, said Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young.
According to Young’s narrative:
An employee saw the way the Chevy was parked made it impossible for other cars to get through, so he approached Rhodes and asked him to adjust the spot of the truck.
Rhodes told him no, then started pumping gas. Another worker walked over and asked him again to move. The customer repeated his earlier answer, so the employee wrestled the pump away.
Rhodes responded, allegedly, by punching the employee in the head several times.
