A man suffered an apparent compound fracture in his leg while he ran from officers Tuesday afternoon, March 19, on West Holly Street.
Bellingham police believe the man — who hasn’t been booked into jail at the time of this post — had warrants out for his arrest, so he ran.
But when he leapt from a 3-foot ledge near the corner of F Street, his left leg landed badly on the concrete below. Over the police scanner we could hear the man screaming in agony, while police threatened to shoot him with a Taser.

A cop accompanied him on his ambulance ride to St. Joseph hospital.
You can see the ledge in the far right of this photo.

An equipment trailer with an excavator on it rolled over on the Interstate 5 southbound on-ramp at Sunset Drive on Wednesday morning, Nov. 7.
The trailer, hauled by a dump truck, tipped over about 9:35 p.m. a.m.
Nobody was hurt, but traffic moved slowly. The southbound on-ramp was still closed a half an hour later, at the time of this posting.
Update at 1:03 p.m. Department of Transportation crews cleared the scene two minutes ago.
This photo comes from Herald reader Carol Howard.
And for some perspective, here are a few traffic cam photos, courtesy of the state Department of Transportation.

This story about Frank L. Clark, who died last week in a motorcycle crash on Mount Baker Highway, mentioned a head-on crash that happened a few weeks earlier at the same intersection.
Matt Waldman, a roofer who’s quoted in the story, sent me these photos showing the aftermath of the Sept. 6 crash. (Thanks, Matt.) The pickup driver suffered a nasty gash to his face, but in the end, both drivers were OK.

Here are some awe-inspiring photos of crews plowing as much as 60 feet of snow from the North Cascades Highway (SR 20) in April. They’re borrowed from the state Department of Transportation’s Flickr page.
The highway reopened at noon Thursday, May 10.
Clearing the snow took about seven weeks. I couldn’t choose just one photo (or just two or just five), and there are others on the Flickr page worth checking out, along with captions explaining each shot. For the story behind the flamingo, check out Zoe Fraley’s story from last week.
Photos courtesy of the DOT. Spokesman Dustin Terpening said several crew members contributed to the photo stream.

From the caption:
On a typical day, the CBP seizes about 4,436 prohibited plant, meat and animal byproducts and finds 570 agricultural pests from abroad that could harm US agriculture.
Cool photos.

Here’s a pair of reader photos of a Wednesday morning crash near the intersection of Donovan Avenue and 12th Street.
Photo credit to Andrew Perkins, of Grinstad & Wagner Architects, who has an office right up the street.
No kids were aboard the bus, Perkins said, and nobody was hurt.
Here’s the blurb on the Bellingham Police log.
