Via police scanner traffic:
9 a.m. A 10-year-old was hit in the head with a rock — don’t know how — and was losing “a serious amount of blood.” Radio traffic was muffled, but I believe it was on Mount Baker Highway south of Kendall.
9:20 a.m. An outside fire reported near the top of Sumas Mountain, by the radio tower.
9:30 a.m. A pair of construction workers were fighting near (what sounded like) the end of a driveway in (what sounded like) Bellingham. “There’s also ladders being thrown,” dispatchers said.
9:40 a.m. A bicyclist was struck by a beige Toyota Camry at the intersection of Cordata Parkway and West Kellogg Road. The cyclist was knocked down, but by the time an ambulance arrived he was conscious, oriented and sitting on the curb.
Edit: And here are a couple more.
11 a.m. Possible drug deal in front of a Catholic church on the Lummi Reservation. Witness saw an exchange, then both men walked to a grove of apple trees and crouched down.
11:50 a.m. Dispatchers figuring out how to deal with domestic dispute: ”Perhaps you can phone Tony and get to the bottom of these shenanigans.”

Via police scanner traffic:
9:03 a.m. A caller reported a woman was burning court paperwork that had just been delivered to her at an RV park on Beachcomber Drive in Birch Bay. Dispatchers said the court order hadn’t been delivered yet, according to their files, but the caller said the owner of the RV park had just served the paperwork.
9:35 a.m. A woman, in her 40s, had an allergic reaction in the Ferndale High School cafeteria. An ambulance responded.
11:20 a.m. A man ran from law enforcement. He may have told a witness he had warrants. (Location has been scratchy, but it’s probably near East Sunset Drive.) Helicopter helping in search.
At 11:51 a.m., dispatchers radioed to the pilot, “They got him detained.”

BELLINGHAM – What initially sounded like an arson at a vacant house on Primrose Lane turned out to be a small fire set and extinguished by two transient people apparently living in the house, according to Bellingham Police.
Reports of visible flames and smoke first came across the police scanner at about 9:47 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Firefighters responded, but when they tried to enter the house, a transient man tried to block the door, Bellingham Police Sgt. Shawn Aiumu said.
Officers arrived and arrested the man for obstructing law enforcement, Aiumu said.
The small fire was out by the time firefighters entered the house.
Apparently the man and a transient woman were living in the abandoned house. They had brought in a few shopping carts filled with their things, Aiumu said.
The man claimed the woman started the fire, and he put it out, but the woman claimed the man started the fire and she put it out, Aiumu said.
No serious damage was reported.

Via police scanner traffic:
1:50 p.m. A cow escaped a cattle truck. Possibly in the Ten Mile Road area? It’s “unknown if the driver knows the cow has escaped.”
2:20 p.m. ATV rollover crash in the 2900 block of Raven Crest. The 27-year-old woman driving the ATV was conscious, but not totally alert.
5 p.m. Two fire calls: one in Sandy Point, one on the Lummi Reservation. Both turned out to be smoke by the time firefighters arrived. The Lummi fire, in the 2300 block of Lummi View Drive, was a deck fire. Neighbors phoned it in, but it seemed like they gave the wrong address. The flames were out by the time engines found the house.
6:50 p.m. Ford F-150 crashed and went off the roadway, 2.4 miles deep on Twin Lakes Road. A man came across the truck. He spoke with the 54-year-old driver, who has a history of stroke. The victim hit his head and also had stomach pain. It’s taking a lot of coordinating for firefighters to respond — that’s a bumpy gravel forest service road.

Via police scanner traffic:
7:15 a.m. Unresponsive 19 year old at an address on Mission Road, “near the railroad tracks and Chestnut.” My best guess is that’s in Everson, but I didn’t catch any followup.
7:50 a.m. An officer was about to give a man a courtesy ride out to Grandview Road. When he radioed in the man’s name, the dispatcher told him they might have to change the route: They had probable cause to arrest him for intimidating a witness. Also, for anybody listening to a scanner about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday: The 100- to 200-foot fishing vessel in distress near Portage Island turned out to be a “misunderstanding,” a U.S. Coast captain confirmed this morning. Crews were dispatched, but it turned out the ship wasn’t in distress after all.
