Three snowshoers were rescued after getting lost near the Mount Baker Ski Area over the weekend.
The three men, aged 23 and 24, had been out snowshoeing and snowboarding for about seven hours Saturday, Jan. 5, when they called an emergency line at 3 p.m. to say they were lost, said Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Jilk.
A GPS location of the wanderers showed they were near a forest service road. After about an hour of hiking, they called back to say they were “cold, wet and tired,” so going any further would be difficult, according to Jilk.
A search and rescue team requested snowmobiles from the nearby ski area, and they were able to bring them out of the woods at twilight.
The men, from Edmonds and Woodinville, were cold and tired but didn’t need medical aid.
