EVERETT — A suspected drunk driver from Bellingham was accused of almost running over a Washington State Patrol sergeant early Tuesday, Nov. 20.
Sgt. Chris Caiola was helping a disabled vehicle on Highway 204 just east of Everett at 12:35 a.m. when an eastbound car brushed past him. He suffered scratches to his elbow. Caiola ran to his cruiser and stopped the 23-year-old driver about a mile to the east, said Trooper Keith Leary.
Troopers suspect the woman was under the influence. Leary did not identify her.
However, a 23-year-old Bellingham woman, Heather M. Anthony, was booked into Snohomish County Jail by the state patrol early Tuesday morning on charges consistent with the crimes: reckless endangerment, driving under the influence and hit and run.
Caiola refused aid.
The sergeant was featured in a 2011 Seattle Times story about another time he was struck by a suspected drunk driver — this time as he sat in his patrol car parked along Interstate 5.

An equipment trailer with an excavator on it rolled over on the Interstate 5 southbound on-ramp at Sunset Drive on Wednesday morning, Nov. 7.
The trailer, hauled by a dump truck, tipped over about 9:35 p.m. a.m.
Nobody was hurt, but traffic moved slowly. The southbound on-ramp was still closed a half an hour later, at the time of this posting.
Update at 1:03 p.m. Department of Transportation crews cleared the scene two minutes ago.

This fawn was picked up in north Bellingham by Washington State Trooper Scott Brown after he responded to a report of an adult deer killed by a truck on Tuesday evening, July 10.

According to Trooper Mark Francis:
Brown showed up about 6:55 p.m. to southbound Interstate 5 near the Northwest Avenue exit. Other deer in the area stayed back, but the orphaned fawn ran up to him and wouldn’t leave. It nuzzled against him and started “mewing.”
“Eh, now what do I do,” Brown wondered.
He picked up the deer and loaded it into his cruiser, then snapped the photo and drove it down to an animal shelter in Arlington.
There, troopers hope it’s being rehabilitated. I’ve got a call out to the wildlife center to get an update on how the little guy is doing.

A crash that left two vehicles flipped over north of Lynden sounded worse on the police scanner than it turned out to be.
#policescanner: Two-vehicle rollover crash on Guide Meridian, north of Badger Rd. Three patients. Injuries appear to be minor.

Two people were trapped in the wreckage while they waited for firefighters to arrive. They managed to crawl out a few minutes later, escaping with what were described, over the scanner, as minor injuries.
One person was transported by ambulance on basic life support to St. Joseph hospital.
Didn’t hear back immediately from State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary, who would have details about the crash, but I’ll update this post later if he gives me a call.
