The cubbies are so excited! We’re going camping in August and the pile includes tent, sleeping bags, camp stove, bug spray, fishing poles… We can hardly wait so we are checking out lots of camping stuff from our library to keep us occupied.
So far we have loved reading Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night, by Cynthia Rylant : “In August Henry and Henry’s big dog Mudge always went camping. They went with Henry’s parents.” Oh no, they may find bears at Bear Lake! Mudge takes lots of dog crackers in his backpack, and finds big logs to chew on. Henry’s dad brings his guitar to sing around the campfire and his mom knows all about camping. Mudge and his family love camping, just like us! The beautiful night sky fills with stars and to our relief, there are no bears or scares, just lots of camping fun.
And wait til you check out Fancy Nancy. Stellar Stargazer by Jane O’Connor. On her first campout, Fancy Nancy uses her fancy words to describe the wonders of the skies!
Not going camping this summer? Sure you can – read Bailey Goes Camping by Kevin Henkes and then “camp” under a table in your house; or set up a tent in the backyard and “camp” really close to home.
