These picture books go great with turkey and family.

I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a PieI Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie by Alison Jackson illustrated by Judith Schachner (ages 3-5)

This holiday version of a silly old tale will have everyone laughing and singing along as the old lady swallows “the cider to moisten the pie which was really too dry.”  She continues to swallow the squash, the salad, the roll, the turkey, etc.

Thank You Bear written and illustrated by Greg Foley (ages 2-4)

Thank You BearWhen Bear finds a cardboard box, he knows that it will make the perfect gift for his friend, Mouse.  On his way to Mouse’s house, however, Bear meets a bunch of friends who tell him the box is “too ordinary” “too small” etc., and Bear starts to question the specialness of his box.  Luckily, he follows through with his intention and Mouse is absolutely thrilled to be given “the greatest thing ever.”  This simple tale with charming, uncluttered illustrations is an excellent introduction to the concept of gift giving.

Sharing stories with the family makes for a sweet ending to any meal.
