Did you know 55% of Young Adult (YA) books are bought by adults these days? If you can’t resist a Young Adult book either, try one of these not too heavy, not too fluffy, perfect YA sleeper hits, then pass it along to your teenage cub during the holidays. It could start a conversation!
Devine Intervention by Seattle author Martha Brokenbourgh is filled with wickedly funny comments mixed with unexpected plot twists. Failed guardian angel Jerome is frozen at age 17 unless he can “graduate” to Heaven by successfully protecting self-conscious and admittedly awkward teen, Heidi Devine. As slacker Jerome bumbles along, Heidi just thinks his motor-mouth comments are just a voice inside her head until one fateful day when she ventures out on an almost frozen lake. Will Jerome be able to save her? Don’t expect the predictable with this book.
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo is one of the best sci-fi fantasy novels to hit the shelves in 2012 and already picked up by Dreamworks for a movie. Monsters, magic, romance, intrigue, darkness, cartography and orphans all weave into the plot of this incredibly rich, mysterious and fast-paced novel. Delicious, dark and a worthy read.
