President’s Day Leadership

Written by | The Bellingham Herald | February 13, 2013

Have you seen the movie Lincoln? It’s not so much about his life as it is about his persistent personality and ambition to eliminate slavery. As he takes on the challenge of war and human abuse the story reminds us that an effective leader makes all the difference in the comfort level of its followers and how close we came to losing the united freedom we all enjoy today. As we celebrate this day whether we get time off or not, let’s pause to appreciate those leaders who shaped this great country and who continue to keep it great.

Spend some time considering immigration laws that help foreigners escape contemporary oppression to attain an earned path to citizenship. We have amazing potential in our global participation, accepting talent that can improve our process will make us more prosperous and give us pride in contribution. Consider what life would be like if we had turned away Albert Einstein, Madeleine Albright or John Muir. Talk to children about their fortunate birth to belong to our country automatically and why honoring our leaders on this day is so important.
