No good playing can be done outside when the storms set it. As a parent this can be a frustrating time of year when kids get bored and they are always running under foot. Here in the northwest the rain coming down signals a change worth taking advantage of.
Get out the bright colors and make some art. It’s amazing what a fresh piece of paper can produce with enough inspiration. Let’s go to Mexico for an hour or two. Put on some Latino tunes to get in the mood. How about using dark colored paper and light colored crayon pastels. Smooth reds, greens and yellows will lighten the vision as you make up a story about your visit to warm, sunny Mexico. The hot wind blowing in your hair will be sure to lift your spirits.
Go into the kitchen, do you have salsa? How about lettuce, cheese, tortillas? If not go get some, pick up some gourds too. This is a colorful plate for chasing the blues away and easy for children to make their own healthy meals. Set the gourds in a warm, dry place for later, eventually they will dry out, the seeds will loosen up and you will get maracas to color some day when it rains again.
