I will be forever grateful to my mother who provided me with the tools I needed, not always what I wanted but certainly she saw talent in me that would develop through great care, she had the wisdom beyond my years to know what was best for me. She saw me drawing a lot and provided an endless stack of paper, pencils and erasers. As I grew up I loved painting and wanted to try every brush and trowel. The tools became more expensive and still she realized they were an investment in my future. Upon entering college she supported me with encouragement and feedback. When I moved away from home, I returned to ask her opinion about my work. She was proud to be the mother of a fashion illustrator, all the neighbors knew what I did for a living.
I have had many career changes since that time but I have stayed with my art throughout all of them. From childhood through adulthood I have experienced a magical world of encouragement and opportunity.
As a parent, you have a huge influence on your child in everything you do. Think carefully when you speak to Santa about filling the stocking. How would you like your child to turn out? Sometimes Influence comes in small doses.
Happy holidays to children of all ages.
