If you’re going to pick up a rod and reel this weekend and take advantage of the no-license required offer being made by the State of Washington, you’ll need to do the following.
- pick up a copy of the 2012-13 Fish Washington regulations booklet and check for the rules applying to your intended fishing destination and quarry.
- For halibut, salmon, steelhead or sturgeon pick up a free catch record card, document catches where and when required and return it to the state if you aren’t going to fish after the weekend.
- check for state health department marine bio-toxin alerts and beach closures before gathering shellfish. Details at: http://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/Shellfish/RecreationalShellfish.aspx
- make sure your boat and all gear are free of exotic and deleterious aquatic plants and animals. Details at: www.fs.fed.us/invasivespecies/documents/Aquatic_is_prevention.pdfwww.fs.fed.us/invasivespecies/documents/Aquatic_is_prevention.pdf
