District Fish Biologist Brett Barkdull of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is the featured speaker at the Tuesday, June 12 evening meeting of the Northwest Washington Steelheaders in Everson.
Barkdull will talk about and answer questions concerning wild and hatchery winter-run steelhead management in the Nooksack Basin, fishing seasons here and other fish management issues.
The independent steelhead club in cooperation with WDFW and Mount Baker High School annually raises from 40,000 to 55,000 hatchery winter-run steelhead at McKinnon Pond to augment the fish and wildlife department’s basic hatchery steelhead program for the Nooksack. Each May the club also continues a long tradition organizing and sponsoring the Bellingham Kid’s Fishing Derby at Whatcom Falls City Park.
The Northwest Washington Steelheaders meet the second Tuesday of month at Herb Niemann’s Steak House Restaurant on West Main Street in downtown Everson. The public is invited to attend. Come early at 6:30 for dinner; programs start at 7 p.m.
