The 2011 Rudy Horat Memorial Kids’ Bluegill Tournament takes place at Fazon Lake on Saturday, June 18 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.
This annual free youth angling contest is organized by the Borderline Bassin’ Contenders club headquartered in Whatcom County
The event is for kids up to age 14, therefore participants do not need a fishing license. However, all contestants must register starting at 10 a.m. before fishing begins.
Prizes will be given for the most sunfishes (bluegills and pumpkinseeds) caught in three age groups: 0 to 6, 7 to 10 and 11 to 14, as well as for the largest and smallest bluegill or pumpkinseed sunfish.
Since there is no practical shoreline access to fish Fazon, a boat or some other form of safe, stable floating platform is a necessity to compete in this contest. And make sure every young contestant is wearing a personal flotation device.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Fazon Lake public access is off East Hemmi Road just east of Everson-Goshen Road, four miles north of Mount Baker Highway. The concrete ramp handles up to moderately sized trailered boats including bass boats.
