Video of the “poverty action march” on Martin Luther King Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is marked Monday, Jan. 21, by a poverty action march, sponsored by Whatcom Volunteer Center, that began at Bellingham High School. The march stopped in front of the Federal Building where local folk singers Robert Sarazin Blake and Mike Marker sang along with the crowd. Marchers walked to Bellingham City Hall before returning to the school. The event to raise awareness and support for those in poverty began with a breakfast and address by Rosalinda Guillen, director of Community to Community Development. People were encouraged to bring essential needs items such as baby food, diapers, soap, toiletries and canned goods to donate at the breakfast.
