CTV reports on a group of American Muslims who gathered Sunday, July 17 at the Peace Arch crossing to protest their post-9/11 status as pariahs who are guilty until proven innocent–or at least, that’s how it feels to many American Muslims.

What do you think? What are your experiences?

  1. WORST_EVER_43 says:

    There should be protests.

It’s an outrage the discrimination and scorn and worst they have had to put up with since the attacks,

Fact: Muslims died as a result of the attacks on 9/11.
Fact: They are currently defending our country.

Build your mosques wherever you like and anyone that says different is spewing un-american bs.

  2. Ron says:

    TRUST.

By definition its something you earn!

Right now the word Muslim is not a “Trustworthy” term, word or Religion!

Every day, TV News and Newspapers across the U.S. Report attempted Terrorist plottings from Seattle to Boston.

Get REAL! If those were Christians that flew those planes into those Scrapers…. it would be ALL CHRISTIANS or Catholics getting his heave-ho of rubbish for that matter.

The white man is blamed till this day for slavery and NOT ONE WHITE MAN, NOW… in my 45mouth years of living has any known slaves! But is still looked at and reminded of the past!

It’s here to stay for ALL MUSLIMS. Its a hard and real fact of AMERICAN LIFE!

Those Men onboard those planes used Muslim words and beliefs for that abomination into those buildings… and till this day… I can’t stop but shed a tear whenever a scene or memory is shown of 9/11!

I’m sorry. But what I learned is forgiveness ain’t found in a form if protest. It just happens over time.

  3. wetcasements says:

“The white man is blamed till this day for slavery”

So who should we blame, sparky?

And lest we forget, the biggest terrorist attack in the US pre-9/11 was carried out by a proud Christian named Timothy McVeigh.

The US Constitution forbids discrimination against religious believers. This isn’t just a “suggestion,” it’s the law and to oppose it is to oppose America’s rules and ideals.

It sounds like Ron would be happier living in theocracy like Iran.

  4. Todd2 says:

Some sociologists say that our perceptions of reality are socially constructed. Perhaps, a deeper understanding derived from a A radical experiment in empathy may be in order here:

  5. Ken Mortland says:

I will not be party to condemnation and discrimination on the basis of religion. If due process is applied and guilt of an individual is determined, I will support punishment of that individual. But I will not punish a religion without due process.

That being said, Muslims should do more to establish the separation between peaceful, law abiding Muslims and those Muslims who commit acts of terrorism. Remaining silent in such circumstances only adds fuel to the fire in the hearts of bigots and confusion in the hearts of reasonable people.

  6. George says:

Ken, hiding even a little bigotry, as you reveal by your second conflicting sentence, is wrong. Your first sentence should have stood alone. I assume you also think Christians also have a responsibility to confront their own, like the scum who protest at funerals of soldiers? How about the confused bigotry embodied in Ron’s sadly misdirected anger?

Also the white man is blamed because it was he who perpetrated horrific acts, up until just a few decades ago on a grand scale and even today in a variety of less egregious but still disturbing ways. So it is important for non racist whites to speak out about the lingering racism around us perpetrated by whites. Don’t you agree?

  7. George says:

Let’s take it even further. By your reasoning, isn’t it then incumbent on those who oppose abortions to try to reign in the actions of fringe cults like the Westboro warren of anti choice fanatics?

  8. George says:

And Ken, Muslims have spoken out loud and clear since 9/11 against radical Islam, so your last sentence is also packing bigotry and a huge lack of credible awareness of recent history and events. So I’m not sure you actually believe your first statement.

  9. Richard May says:

    Ken’s statements coexist.

His first point is about what *should* be right and fair.

His second point makes a suggestion how to manage the reality in our imperfect world full of people who like to point fingers and cause conflict. Rose colored glasses, and being on the correct side of an issue will not be enough.

    example :
You have a right to free speech. However, I recommend you don’t insult a biker gang.

    Ken’s example :
Demographics should not be blamed for actions of some of their individuals. However, it is in the interest of a demographic to try and help curb and loudly differ from offenders within their group.

If only life were so simple.

  10. Ron says:

Wetcasements, here is some news, I LOVE IT HERE IN AMERICA! And so do YOU!

Served my 20 years! And been there and done that in Saudi, Turkey etc. I can see why there is a HUGE MUSLIM MOVE” TO” AMERICA!

Enough of that, your Timothy McVeigh (Factoid) was and is a IQ Idiot! You really have to know this CRACK CASE! You can get a lesson here.

Fact: McVeigh was a Catholic with only CORE BELIEFS, in otherwords, Catholic by name only! What is really Ironic was that, while he was INCARCERATED, McVeigh was frequently and unsuccessfully tried to be converted to Islam, by RAMZI YOUSEF! (1993 World Trade Center Bombing) a HUGE Al-Qaeda member! Islam again gets a GOOD NAME! Add Timmy McV as a recuit to Islam? You judge?

Fact: He was motivated by the”Whacky”, Waco Fiasco in TX, and really disliked the Goverment for that and other reason. That was his whole thing. Guns, Taxes, etc! this Kid was a psycho! Glad he is gone.

There are more people you can toss out and each day in the NEWS are more Terrorist surfacing with Al-Qaeda and Muslim terminology!,

In all seriousness, this is about the “Right”… people have to Protest, and that is all! But, when that protest is clouded by terrorism in the world, look at “WHO” is using the word “Islam” or “Muslim” religion.

How about that Plot in Seattle just a few weeks or months ago. That guy that did house cleaning (Own Business), had plans and people to do an ACT, and totally didn’t think of his WIFE AND KID! Saw it here on the NEWS! Wow.

Here is what it is. This is all people can say.

    “He was my neighbor”

    or

“I didn’t think or see him, being a Terrorist”! And when it all comes to that person being caught or he dies.. there is one thing for sure, that is said.

    For Islam!

Or he has a Muslim name (John Doe and is no longer used) as his real Name.

Its Black and White. Plain as day. Muslim religion is USED in Terrorism. That is all I am saying.

  11. Todd2 says:

What’s that famous line again? Oh yeah . . .

We have met the enemy, and he is us.

  12. George says:

I think that Christianity holds, hands down, the record for inspiring terrorism and promoting terrorism against non believers over any other religion in history. Islam not even close. It has supported institutionalized slavery, oppression of women, genocide, suppression of civil rights, torture, theft of territorial lands and historical artifacts, and wanton for centuries. The Cristian God is also apparently the new Mars as his/her name is invoked in support of a plethora of wars and conflicts, often by both sides.

  13. AFY says:

“Around the world, and especially in Africa and Asia, Christian populations are suffering severe discrimination and brutal attacks. Thousands are being killed. Systematic campaigns are being waged against Christians simply because of their faith, and it is not too dramatic to suggest that these are forms of ethnic cleansing and genocide.

Yet there is little awareness of these continuing atrocities in the West, and even less response…

….The world, especially the West, has an exquisite sensibility to the rights of non-Christians around the world. But Christians are suffering daily in Africa and Asia. Where is the outrage?

    AFY!!theheelotsheepdog!!!

  14. Richard May says:

yah that’s it AFY… white Christians are at a disadvantage regarding financial and military dominance.

  15. AFY says:

RM, are you inferring that the growing Christian populations in Africa or Asia are white?

Even if the majority of them were white which methinks they are not, would their persecution be acceptable?

    AFY!!theheelotsheepdog!!!

  16. Big D says:

Ok… back to the protest for Muslims being discriminated!

Who cares and shut up about it already! I’m in line with some Canadian Muslim’s right now in Fred Meyer and they’re buying all this milk!

I think they are Terrorist! But that just me. Come on… 5 gallons? Get a cow!

  17. That may be many motivational things. Didn’t know in which beliefs could possibly be that diverse. Appreciate it for the commitment to make available such helpful information below.
