Analysis of Obama’s second term … and first lady’s ‘do

New York Times op-ed columnist David Brooks calls for a baby-steps approach to rediscovering negotiation and compromise in Congress, then spills what he thinks the Democrats are really up to — and no, it has nothing to do with extending a hand across the aisle.

Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post blog “The Fix” says Obama has four more years, but he really has far less time than that to lock in his legacy.

Cillizza is a clever tweeter, too. A recent tweet (under the account @TheFix) refers to two participants in today’s inauguration: “‘If you can’t respect that/your whole perspective is whack/maybe you’ll love me when I fade to black.’ Obama or Jay Z?”

The president also mentioned climate change in his inaugural speech today, a topic he was silent on in his first term. Apparently, Obama+climate change is a potent mixture for commenters — check out the comments underneath this post.

Finally, I went to the conservative aggregating site the Drudge Report to find a link to a good conservative analysis of the second term. I came away disappointed. (Does anyone know where I can find such a thing?) What I did find were links to a celebrity dissing Michelle Obama’s new ‘do; someone pointing out the hyporcrisy of the inauguration’s 3,000-plus calorie lunch, given the first lady’s push for healthier eating; and a report calling out the prez for apparently tweeting from church this morning.
