BREAKING! Chambers concedes to Michael Lilliquist

Chambers

Chambers

Not a lot of detail yet, but I’ve just spoken with Bellingham City Council candidate Catherine Chambers’ campaign manager, Riley Sweeney, who said she’s currently calling opponent Michael Lilliquist to concede.

Lilliquist

Lilliquist

I have a call in to both. Sweeney says they’re issuing an e-mail statement.

Lilliquist expanded his vote lead over Chambers from 1,562 to 1,710 from yesterday, according to the most recent returns. He has 56.5 percent of the vote to to her 43.5 percent lead. It’s a 13 point different and is insurmountable.

*UPDATE* - Here is Chambers’ statement:

First of all, I want to congratulate Michael Lilliquist, he ran a fine campaign and I look forward to seeing his sharp insight as a city councilman. I want to thank all my supporters. We ran a hard campaign, and since June when we started, this race has been a great opportunity to talk about what voices need to be heard in the city council chambers. Though this race is done, this conversation is not going away, and I urge everyone to stay involved in local politics

Congratulations to both Catherine and Michael for running a clean, issues-based campaign. Catherine has earned a right to continue to speak for the “voices who need to be heard,” and I suspect Michael will be listen when she speaks.

Good luck to Catherine in her next endeavor, and good luck to Michael as he takes on his new Council responsibilities.

I was going to write those very same words but Larry Horowitz beat me to it!
Riley, I’ve enjoyed your participation in Sam’s blog, and I hope you’ll continue to comment here.
I have the greatest respect for Catherine Chambers, and I hope to become better acquainted with her in the future.

    Sorry Camille.

Thank you so much. I will continue to be involved. I am always looking for more campaign work so I imagine it won’t be long before someone else accuses me of being a “hired gun”.

RS, Catherine and you both gave it a very good try, there is nothing to look back about but to only go forward now with pride!
