Reminder: Transit Works WTA tax increase kickoff campaign tonight

February 3rd, 2010 2 PM PST by Sam Taylor - The Bellingham Herald

For those who haven’t heard, the pro-WTA-tax-increase group Transit Works has their campaign kickoff tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Blue Horse Gallery, 301 W. Holly St., in Bellingham.

The venue is a popular campaign event spot for the Whatcom County Democratic Party.

*UPDATE* - And here’s the Transit Works Web site, which you can’t find on Google yet, but I’m sure it’ll be a top result once I link to it. Find it at PreserveOurPublicTransit.org. There are a few other “Transit Works” organizations, too. This one is the one for Whatcom County. Also, this Web site clearly isn’t finished yet but is supposedly going to have more content by tonight.

You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed. Both comments and pings are currently closed.

The event was great! Good turn out, great speech by Mayor Dan Pike, outlining some of the very good reasons to support this levy.

I’m sorry I missed the presentation, I was at the Project Homeless Connect orientation meeting first.

It was nice to see a few old friends and kick a little into the kitty.

did anyone ride the bus to this?

Someguy’s question actually made me chuckle. A valid question, though. Any attendees take a WTA bus over that way?

Riley, like I said I got there late, but did anyone else speak, like the past mayor who was there or Louise or anyone else?

Sam, any ideas why every other time I log on I get a popup saying I need to log in just to read any part of the on-line Herald?

Shaun - yes - there is a threshold for page views on the main Herald Web site. You only get to read a certain amount of articles before you’re required to log in. I can’t remember what that threshold is. You also have to log on to post a story comment.

I know at the bare minimum, I walked to the event with my lovely partner Bryna. Seth Fleetwood was also on foot. To answer Shaun’s question, Jason Heck (our very talented other democratic organizer in town) spoke. Lots of notables were there, but they did not give a speech.

Did the mayor lean on any art?

  10. Shaun Says:
    February 4th, 2010 at 9:11 AM

And yet from my other computer, as I read old archives and past stories to catch up, I encountered no such limit. Why is that? So you are saying I have to be logged in to even come here and then be vetted again?

Deleting the Herald cookies will allow you unlimited access to page views without a log-in.
There are only three to find so it’s easy to clear them.

Shaun - these are questions for Executive Editor Julie Shirley. I simply run this blog and am but a lowly reporter. She’s the one to ask more questions of, as I really don’t have more details of how it works. I have to log in just like everyone else when I read multiple stories.

    Thanks Sam ;)

    Sam,

I was on good behavior and did not lean on any art last night.

Very good, mayor. You better hope I don’t see pics. ;)

Just leaning on the citizens, ay mayor…. ;)

I don’t even need the arguments, Transit is always on my support list. I paid a fiver for my button.
