The Latte Republic blog has an interesting account of trouble at the Occupy Bellingham outpost at Maritime Heritage Park. The blog contends that protesters had so much trouble with one person in their group that they called Bellingham police to have him removed, but police said they could not help.
I have contacted a police spokesman to see if the department wishes to elaborate.
Police spokesman Mark Young says dispatch records and police reports do not corroborate this version of events. Young says there is no record of any such discussion between Occupy participants and police, and no indication that anyone at Occupy Bellingham contacted police about having a disruptive person removed.
Here’s what the record does show, according to Young:
At 6:06 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, a 51-year-old man called police to report that he had been in an argument with Occupy participants and after leaving the area for awhile, came back to find that his belongings had been gathered up and dumped in a pile on the sidewalk. He also told police that some people had kept his tent and he wanted it back. He then led a police officer to a tent that he said belonged to him, but other people in the area said it was not, in fact, his.
“We didn’t have legal standing to reclaim the tent,” Young said. “Whatever led up to this was not conveyed to the officer at the time.”
The 6:06 incident appears on the police Daily Activity report.

What I want to know is did these campers receive permission to camp out in the park? City ordinances state that there is to be no overnight camping in City parks. It’s an eyesore already. I would love to not have to look at them when I drive by.
The first amendment is their permit.
“Occupy” doesn’t sound very peaceful.
Oakland doesn’t look very peaceful.
From the LTE about some protester blocking traffic and others surrounding a truck… Occupy Bellingham doesn’t sound very peaceful.
If half of this police report is true, Occupy Bellingham continues to not sound very peaceful.
Damaging and intentionally crowding/excluding others from public property….
“– the right of the camp to decide who can be in the camp and who can’t. Officers were giving incorrect information. I’m not going against any decision residents have made.
– vote to deal with this right now. Passes.
– My understanding is the cop came in and said if a homeless man came to join the encampment that we have no right to say that person can’t be here.
– Legally, this camp has every right to be here. Given that there is permission from the Parks Dept and Mayor, this is a de facto permit, plus the First Amendment petitioning govt for redress of grievances. Other people don’t have the right to make us unsafe. Don’t like involving the cops when I don’t have to. You have every right to approach those people and tell them to leave.”

Wow…
Of course, you could actually visit the Encampment and judge for yourself whether or not it conforms to what it sounds like…
I have no desire to put myself in a situation where “Shunning, intimidation” (same link) may be direct towards me.
This whole Occupy movement reminds me of one of me favorite books:
“Lord of the Flies” is the label our enemies in the right-wing media are trying to attach to our comrades in the OWS trenches. Our failure to suppress daily reports of rape, theft, infighting, heroin dealing, underage prostitution, and public fornication at various Occupy camps enables the corporate media propagandists to attach snarky, partisan memes to our glorious movement. What they don’t realize – and we aren’t going to tell them – is that it is all part of the master plan.
Armed with the invincible Marxist doctrine, the shadow commissars behind the Occupy movement know full well that the old capitalist system must come crumbling down before a new Progressive world can occupy its place. And Occupy rallies are not only our tools to bring down capitalism – they are also a laboratory of new progressive lifestyles: this is what the final revolution will look like….

AFY!!theheelotsheepdog!!!
AFY;
“This is what democracy looks like” only means one thing: a socialist utopia is not possible if the opposition has the right to vote against it. So the conch shell of democracy must be shattered.
It was shattered. about 235 years ago or so; “…and to this Republic for which it Stands…”
“May it be to the world what I believe it will be, (to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all,) the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, under which Monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings & security of self government. That form which have substituted, restores the free right to the unbound exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. All eyes are opened,or opening, to the rights of man. The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to view the palpable truth that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of god. These are grounds of hope for others. For ourselves, let the annual return of this day forever refresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them.”
Thomas Jefferson Monticello, 1824
This is a problem that warrants such attention? A disagreement between people in a park, part of a protest, and this is newsworthy? really? There are people standing on your exit ramps begging for gas money, many homeless, foreclosures rife, laws being revamped for the benefit of government, women STILL making less cause their women, domestic violence protections CUT, jobs stagnant, children programs cut, people who can’t get medical care,… the list is endless, and this is what you spend your time harping about?
Are you insane?
Its rare for me to discover something on the net that is as entertaining and intriguing as what you have got here. Your page is lovely, your graphics are great, and whats more, you use source that are relevant to what you are talking about. Youre definitely one in a million, good job!
