The Bill Mize Forum, then goodbye

July 28th, 2010 4 PM PST by Sam Taylor - The Bellingham Herald

Good evening, everyone.

Well now, what a hectic week, no? I’ve been working nights all three days this week. Tomorrow and Friday, I’ll be on vacation in Idaho spending time with my family for my birthday and for my wife’s baby shower.

There may very well be a few tidbits that might get posted here … like upcoming Herald endorsements. I’ll read the paper each morning to see if any come out. I’ll also check my e-mail perhaps once a day just to see if there’s something to post to feed your need.

Other than that, the blog will be dormant until I’m back on Monday. For now, I go to prepare for the Bill Mize Forum tonight.

Enjoy your Wednesday evening.

    Happy Birthday Sam!
The rattles and stuffed animals from the baby shower are not your birthday presents.

Happy Birthday, Sam. Enjoy the crack-of-dawn rendition of ‘Birthday’ by the Beatles. Have a fun baby shower, too.

Also, congrats to Jean Melious on getting the Herald’s endorsement, and to the Herald EB for their well-explained rationale for doing so.

*Breaking* Clint Didier and Paul Akers to make an “Important Joint Special Announcement” tonight at 7:00 pm. Will one drop out? Will both drop out? Info at either candidate website.

Hey Trixi, thanks for the update. Heard it from you first. I had trouble listening online via BlogTalkRadio.com and am too cheap for the long distance phone call. Were you able to listen live online?

  17. Bellinghammer Says:
    July 29th, 2010 at 6:49 PM

I *think* I found the right link here. Just started for those interested - http://www.blogtalkradio.com/squareonemedia/2010/07/30/call-in-for-mr-didier

  18. Bellinghammer Says:
    July 29th, 2010 at 7:05 PM

There were technical difficulties so things are just getting started. Problems seem to be worked out now. 15 minutes remaining in online call. Waiting for the candidates to come on. Apparently it’s online only now. System crashed - possibly due to too many callers.

  19. Bellinghammer Says:
    July 29th, 2010 at 7:34 PM

Dang it. I got interrupted and thought I could “pause” the call - apparently not. It sounds like the just of it is that no one is backing out, instead Didier and Akers are going to start running joint ads expressing their concern that the “establishment” is trying to pick the Senatorial candidate and they believe that they (the establishment) should back off and let the people decide.

That’s what I took away from the short duration I was able to listen too.

Paul and Clint mentioned that they are friends and that they think this might be the first time two candidates for the same race will run joint political ads.

Thanks, Bellinghammer! I didn’t get to listen last night, so appreciate coming on Sam’s blog and getting an immediate update. With three choices between the party, I have to agree with Shaun, they’re doomed.

I attended the Bill Mize forum and found it very useful. There were many well-grounded candidates on “both sides”. Something, though, that I found a bit puzzling was how Dusty Gulleson has the chutzpah to run for the 40th LD representative position 1.

There are already two excellent conservative candidates (Mike Newman and Chuck Carrell), each of whom has an impressive record of volunteer community service. Mr. Gulleson, by contrast, moved here only 2 years ago, has voted here only twice, and has zero- nada! -record of community service here in the 40th LD. Do we think so poorly of our own candidates that we need to import an unknown? (There is a word for this- think synonym for “rug”.) Mr. Gulleson’s website waxes about his family roots two generations ago in Washington, but his own life until very recently was in Virginia, and his business continues to be in Virginia. Hard to see how he’d be very intimately familiar with our issues.

Are we so backward that we need people to step off the plane and lead us? I will admit that “Dusty” speaks more like a Powerpoint presentation than either of our homegrown candidates on the R side, but is that really important? Either Mr. Carrel or Mr. Newman have much more credible roots here.

    Just wondering.

I found Overstreets answers to the Herald’s Zoe Fraley today to be pathetically shallow.

He might have a nice family and his kids have some names they’ll end up hating their parents for and changing later in life, but we don’t need a nice family; we need a straight talking adult with substance and Oversteet is clearly not that yet.

Latte has an interesting article on the controversy of a stage photo showing Overstreet wearing fire fighting gear…
