Washington Poll: Obama approval rating high, AZ immigration law supported … and more

May 24th, 2010 9 AM PST by Sam Taylor - The Bellingham Herald

A healthy majority of Washington voters approve of President Obama, and they also like Arizona’s controversial immigration law, according to new poll results released today.

The results are from the Washington Poll, a project of the Washington Institute for the Study of Ethnicity, Race & Sexuality at the University of Washington in the School of Social Sciences.

Staff looked at a wealth of issues, from President Obama, to the immigration issue to Senator Patty Murray and various initiatives that could be on the November ballot.

The new health care law is just outside the margin of error and is approved by 45 percent of the voters, compared to 41 percent who don’t approve. The margin of error was 2.8 percent.

Meanwhile, President Obama received a 58 percent approval rating versus 39 percent who don’t approve, according to the results.

Some 52 percent of voters approve of the Arizona immigration law, with 42 percent disapproving.

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, also received a health rating: 51 percent approved, 34 percent disapproved. That brings us to another question: Murray or Republican Dino Rossi?

The race is nearly a tossup, with Murray receiving 44 percent and Rossi receiving 40 percent, and the question had a 3.9 percent margin of error. The senator actually does slight worse against a generic Republican candidate 42 to 39 percent with the same margin.

Voters want to create an income tax on high earners and cut property taxes, and they also want to privatize liquor sales in the state, the results state. Both questions had huge favorable majorities.

Meanwhile, the public is split on Republican state Attorney General Rob McMenna suing over the healthcare law, are OK with the cigarette, beer and bottled water taxes raised by the state Legislature — but they also want to require two-thirds majority votes for such increases.

All that and more at these results, right here.

Methinks the popularity of the AZ immigration law may have something to do with some of the great individuals the current nonenforcement of federal immigration laws is allowing to visit our pretty little state!

I’ll bet that’s a real cross section of the state!

If Patty is in trouble here, which she is, it looks pretty grim for her.

Fern - they called people at home - they didn’t simply do this survey within the department. The Washington Poll is one of the best indicators we have in this state for what our residents actually think. The Elway Poll is another good one.

Illegal found guilty of killing three

In the first trial stemming from the shootings of four college-age friends in a Newark schoolyard nearly three years ago, a jury on Monday returned guilty verdicts for three murders and one attempted murder after less than a day of deliberations.

State Rep. Mike Moran of Brighton was rear-ended by a suspected illegal immigrant this week. The suspect was wearing a Mexican costume at the time of the crash where he slammed into Moran at 60 mph.

The suspect, 27-year-old Isaias Naranjo, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license. According to the report, when told of the serious charges he would be facing, he just laughed.

But because of action taken by Gov. Deval Patrick, state police were unable to notify immigration authorities that Naranjo might be illegal.

Besides for the immigration laws that are broken merely by the fact that they are in this country illegally I’m not convinced that illegal immigrants are any more prone to breaking the law. In fact I’m guessing a large percentage of illegal immigrants are very careful to follow as many rules as possible so they are not picked up based on other violations.

Which leads me to the Arizona immigration law. I can’t believe the hysteria Obama and the Democrats are trying to whip up over this legislation using false or misleading information. The Arizona legislation seems like it will be a good tool for Arizona to specifically identify illegals who have been charged with committing some other crime.

17% (lawbreakers) is the figure I read somewhere, don’t ask for backup ST, it way to late in the day for me.

But here me thought, how hard is it to get a pasport and come into the country legal, if you are not a law breaker? Cheaper than paying a coyote, I’s would think.

Most people agree we need a comprehensive immigration law, where we seem to disagree is with the people who do not believe in borders! or that we should be a nation of laws.

    Here the AZ law for those who want to really understand what it says and are not solely bent on racebaiting;

Sheepdog? I think not, this is the kind of behavior one would expect from an ill mannerd, unruly pit bull. Absent any authority or control it just bounds and pounces hither and yon with what could only be described as a less than Cumbaya attitude towards immigrants.

17% of what? Illegal immigrants who are law breakers? If they’re illegal they’re all lawbreakers, so what other nonsense are you trying to spread? The incidence of lawlessness amongst all immigrants, other than the obvious offense of being here without the proper credentials, is no different than the rest of the country.

There’s one thing to offer facts to support your little Hitlerian, Nazi, **hack, hack** day dreams of stopping all brown types and impounding their taco buses, but your romp just suggests a lot of what people always suspected about Tea.

There is no doubt there are many who feel controlling our borders is a good idea:

There is an enormous number of Americans who have been harmed by the criminals who pass through the nation’s open borders. For that reason, this section can only provide a symbolic tribute to the many unnamed victims who have been killed, raped, robbed, crippled and otherwise personally violated.

It is particularly shocking that even in post-911 America, the government still refuses to protect the people in the most basic ways from the world’s terrorists and criminals who enter at will to do as they please. The borders remain a sieve while the human carnage from crime perpetrated from illegal aliens continues to mount. In another stunner of INS malfeasance, the agency often cannot even manage to deport dangerous criminal aliens when they reach the ends of their prison terms.

Barack Obama has been a commander that will go down in history for more than simply being the earliest dark Usa president. Because of the financial crisis there have been some extremely tough times lately for Us citizens and for the entire planet and President obama has needed to deal with how to deal with this and lots of different challenges. He has his practitioners as well as critics nevertheless he’s surely made a great contribution to Usa.

    Absopositively Dave.

The Nazi’s set a high bar for evil, but man can apparently always strive…

Plus they were such snappy dressers in their black and white SS uniforms and jaunty hats.

And what army in the world hasn’t adopted the basic shape of those almost iconic helmets?

    And the Goose stepping!

I mean who could top all that, except Mel Brooks’ Springtime for Hitler and Germany…

All the fear and loathing of gays and Jews and anyone not Aryan,… and then we find out many of the most evil ringleaders were self hating gays or self hating Jews.

In some ways, sort of like today actually.

So I guess self hating gays like the gay converter and his Rentboy are just the latest, closest thing we have to (Godwin’s law rules) **cough cough**

But then the goose stepping should have been a clue.
