It’s Friday, and we’re having political burnout

From Stark

I just can’t bring myself to post links to any more stories about Rick Perry’s poll numbers or Mitt Romney’s campaign strategy or Barack Obama’s approval ratings.

Perhaps I just need a refreshing weekend to recover my enthusiasm for such stuff, as well as city and county election issues,  environmental impact statements,  etc.

One little item I am looking forward to next week: U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen will be in Whatcom County. Among other things, he will go to Lynden to talk to local farmers about labor and immigration issues. That discussion won’t be open to the likes of me, but Larsen’s staff says the Congressman and at least some local farmers will be available to discuss the issue afterwards. I plan to take them up on that.

A few weeks ago, Skagit County berry grower Steve Sakuma told reporter Rob Hotakainen that overly restrictive immigration laws run the risk of shutting down the berry industry.

Not just political burnout, I’m feeling the “It’s sunny and I wish I were at Lake Padden” syndrome. It’s a very unfortunate condition, particularly when you have to work. What do you all have planned for this weekend?

  2. Perry E says:

Rep. Larsen met with the Whatcom County Association of REALTORS(R) this afternoon. It was an excellent meeting concerning continuation of the Mortgage Interest Deduction, the operation of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac in the secondary mortgage market, qualified residential mortgages, and a whole host of other issues. We are very excited to have Rep. Rick Larsen working for the real estate industry and in the “other Washington” working for the citizens of Whatcom County.

  3. HiGuy says:

    Perry,
Rick Larsen works for the voters who elected him…..NOT the real estate industry. That’s one of the major things wrong in the other Washington.

  4. JamesfromBham says:

I’m pretty sure Rick Larsen can represent those who work in the real estate field as well as those who do not. Rick Larsen meets with a wide group of constituents, and although I do not always agree with them, I know that he is thoughtful in his decisions.

    Happy weekend Fella’s!
(I’ll bet John’s weekend is for the birds!)

  6. AFY says:

And why is the country going broke & broken!

Cause we have a bunch of people who once they get into office think all it takes to get re-elected is to keep handing out the goodies to the special interests instead of focusing on fixing the problem!

But it does seem to work, Rick keeps getting re-elected doesn’t he!

    Here’s a thought…

    You’re writing the POLITICS blog…

    get over it.

  8. g.h.kirsch says:

Yeah, Joe, that Larson’s just a pork bearing excuse for a representative. Those damn Democrats!

Wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of Larson and replace him with some Republican pork bearing excuse for a representative?

    We see through you, Joe.

  9. curmudgeon says:

(In the style of kirsch, with whom you seem to agree, Shane)
Yes Shane, , you’re writing on the politics blog.

  10. g.h.kirsch says:

Yeah, Shane, I thought it was lame too.

  11. MissOdie says:

Last I checked neither Larsen, Murray or Cantwell are hosting town hall meetings in August 2011. August of 2009, during the health care debates, our representatives stopped representing us and now only support their ideology. Since when did a “representative” republic stop being what all politicians swear to uphold and defend? Remember, we get the government we vote for. If we want real representation, we will have to get off our couches and work for it.
