Malkin: Mark Kennedy passing with solemnity
It’s very hard to avoid news coverage of Sen. Ted Kennedy today. Clearly it’s because of how much of a national figure he’s been for decades. But I’ve also been reading a lot of public comment on him. There’s a lot of negative and positive comments about his passing, and you can probably predict the tenor for yourself.
But conservative columnist Michelle Malkin’s post at her blog, a place where she’s known to fire off hot shots at progressives and Democrats quite often, caught me off guard:
The U.S. Senator from Massachusetts succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 77 tonight. Put aside your ideological differences for an appropriate moment and mark this passing with solemnity.
There is a time and place for political analysis and criticism. Not now.

Q: Your thoughts? Should controversial figures be respected when they die no matter what?

I kinda go with the saying about not speaking evil of the dead, at least the newly dead, but let’s say you were in some concentration camp in Poland and you heard that Hitler was dead, then I might be dancing for the stars!

I get the same warm fuzzies from Malkin as I did when I thought of Adolf and Eva making out in The Bunker.
There’s some sweetness in even the most rotten fruit,
meant to draw the flies.

Ciz the vile you have would make any heart sour!
I hope in real life you can find something that gives you pleasure outside of this hatred for those who believe different than you.

When the champion of your opposition dies,
even the most despicable figures come out to weep.
But I DO admire your ability to ignore the obvious!
Your Hate Card is tattered,
I’d suggest the Whine Card as a replacement.

You know ciz, every time I have a lovely discusiion with you, it makes me think about Glenn new book (title at least)! Ok that was mean, so I take it back!
If that’s a red whine (Italian my favorite), I might like it.

What is the Title of Glenn Beck’s book?
Lemme guess.
Shilling For Dummies?
How To: Noose Aficionados?
Thirty Ways to Leave Your Advertiser?
The Color of Stupid?
White Like Me?
Hemorrhoids and The Best Health System Money Can’t Buy?
There’s Tears in My Ears From Lying On My Back In My Hospital Bed Cryin Over The U.S.A.?
Rush Made Me Do It?

I’ve been severely critical of Malkin many times. I’m pleasantly amazed at her comment on the death of Teddy. She showed real class, which I wish she would do more often.

I do not believe at all in pretending people were saints just because they die. This is the price of being a pubic figure, and everyone who goes into politics knows it. If you really think about Ted Kennedy’s life, the good and the bad, it poses an interesting question about whether redemption is really possible. Of course, the right wing does not believe that he did anything worthy of redemption. But for those of us who admire much of what he accomplished in the years since 1969, it’s an interesting question.

I just read some of the vile, hateful comments on the news story about Murray and Cantwell mourning the passing of a friend and colleague. Those “people” and their thoughts are beneath contempt. They make me want to resign from the human race, but the line is so long…

Vile isn’t a noun so you can’t Have It.
You might say something to apparently degrade the subject with an adjective or two,
but that’s subjective as are all adjectives.
The comments about Kennedy are no worse than any that the Regressive Conservatives post about virtually any other subject,
contempt or no.
Being indelicate sometimes just boils down to the sensitivity one uses to read comments that one dislikes,
as does AFY!!!, the Queen of Intentional Reading Dysfunction.
So to say Malkin possesses some sweetness amid her rot,
is a true insult to those unfamiliar with the English language,
but is hardly an indictment of a proper reverential attitude.
An attitude that only surfaces After a person dies.

Ciz, could your bile be enough to make a liver rot?
Outside of sour hearts and rotting livers, what gives you pleasure other than that hate for those you have that disagree with ya?

You win agin!
The Hate Card always trumps the Reading Card!
Damn!
There’s nobody that whips out that sucker as fast as you can.
But you see,
it isn’t the differing beliefs that cause consternation,
but the words, deeds and actions that the philosopher enables that are fair game for vitriol.
I support your right to hate me,
but I’ll never provoke your disgust through activity meant to cripple you.

I don’t hate you, really, I kinda like you, heck, some of my best friends have been people who were completely opposite of me, wouldn’t life be boring if we all felt and thought the same?
I reckon we all have our concepts of utopia, I reckon mine would forever have somebody holding up a sign in protest included, people not always agreeing, but it would be nice that everyone respects each other, even if they don’t agree. That might be a pipe dream, but I have found pipe dreams to be pleasant also.
