Via the conservative Washington Policy Center:
Rep. Doug Ericksen is sponsoring an amendment to Senate Bill 6696 that would enable communities to operate their schools as public innovation schools, free of restrictive regulations and traditional approaches. The amendment is modeled after Colorado’s successful Innovation Schools Act of 2008, which allows school districts the control to reinvent schools, including the use of resources, time and staff if it serves the mission of the school — rather than as required by state regulations and entrenched practices.Senate Bill 6696, which is expected to run on the House floor, attempts to implement education reforms to make Washington state eligible for federal “Race to the Top” funds. The inclusion of innovation schools would add a reform which would improve the state’s eligibility for a share of $4 billion.
Details of Rep. Ericksen’s amendment, and the rest of the post, can be found, right here.
Q: After reading the post and the details, what are your thoughts on Ericksen’s proposal?

Actual text of both the bill (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=6696&year=2009) and specifically Ericksen’s amendments: (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2009-10/Pdf/Amendments/House/6696-S2.E%20AMH%20ERIC%20MCLA%20576.pdf)
Let me read that first before I make thoughts about it.
