My Facebook friends come from all points on the political compass, and it’s always amusing to watch them posting their reactions to major speeches and news events.
Last night, my Democratic-leaning friends posted their glowing reactions to Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, while the Republicans and conservatives scoffed at what they saw as empty rhetoric attempting to distract people from the dismal swamp that is our economy.
What do you think?

I don’t think I imagined Mitt Romney being upstaged by a chair the week before…
…and Jon Stewart summed it up concisely when he pointed out the empty chair was a metaphor for there being a President Obama that “only Republicans can see.”
I suspect the debates will produce the same Rorschach responses that the conventions produced.
In November, we will find out which group is out of touch.
All we will find out in November is the American public keeps voting in 1 of the same old 2 parties over and over and over and over again and then complaining after each election every single time
The two people who have told the truth to the American public about all of the recent U.S. administrations (both parties) are being punished for bringing the light – Julian Assange and Bradley Manning.
There is a deliberate U.S. media (left and right owned by 4 global corporations) blackout and/or disinformation campaign on reporting the actual facts about Assange and Manning so you will have to be a very good online researcher if you want real information.
As reported today in Huff Post (“Sweden’s Shame”) Julian Assange is pursued on trumped up charges by Sweden which is a regular collaborator with the U.S. on human rights and international law violations.
Yesterday, citizens from 35 cities in the U. S. turned out to try to give Americans the facts about Bradley Manning’s case and to demand that Obama retract remarks he deliberately made in 2011 prejudicing Manning’s case by telling the world that he “broke the law” when he released to the American public a video showing the American military killing innocent civilians in 2007.
Punished for telling the truth.
It does not matter who wins in November. Everything is in place.
Punished for telling the truth.
American citizens – you’re next.
NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell: “Brian, this was all about getting them excited. There wasn’t a whole lot of new policy,…. I would say it was more prose than poetry.”
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I was stunned. This is a man who gave one of the great speeches of our time in 2004, and he gave one of the emptiest speeches I have ever heard on a national stage. Yes, it had cadence, and yes, there were deceptions in it, but that is not what is so striking about it. There was nothing in it. This is a man who believes that government can and should do a lot. There is nothing in here that tells us how he’s going to go from today to tomorrow. For any of the so called goals and what government is going to do, what is he going to enact?
….I think it does [affect Independents] and I think it’s a negative. If you’re an independent and aren’t a committed person on the left or right. And you were sort of a pragmatist, and you’re listening and the President offers you numbers out of a hat, he wants a lot of this and that….And you say, I’ve heard this, this is nothing new. This, is what he tried, he talked about. Where is the meat to make me think that I should have hope and faith? That we will achieve anything? That is what I think he’s lacking. I think for independents, it will send him somewhat backwards.”
