From Stark
U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has introduced a bill that he says would make it easier for U.S. farmers to bring immigrant workers into the country on temporary visas.
Read the details of Smith’s proposal here.
Among other things, his bill would transfer the agricultural labor permitting system to the Agriculture Department, away from the Labor Department.
According to this report from McClatchy, the bill would cover dairies as well as other farms, which apparently has not been the case under previous temporary worker plans. But some in agriculture say Smith’s proposal doesn’t go far enough.
On Aug. 29, 2011, U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Everett, was in Whatcom County meeting with local farmers. Afterwards, Larsen said he would oppose legislation that would force farmers to use E-Verify, a computerized federal system that checks validity of a worker’s identity documents, unless a way could be found to enable farmer to get access to legal labor to harvest their crops.

Oh for the days when 13-18 year old kids could earn some money being productive and for the most part being social while helping the nations food supply. But no that is not allowed anymore. Now kids have become couch potatoes while parents work…then the same people who took the opportunity to learn job skills away complain “kids are to fat”.
Are kids barred from working in the fields?
By all means, let’s let the USDA run things. Then we’ll really have a mess.
Let’s see, we got over 10 million unemployed taking billions in unemployment insurance for what appears to be an eternity now and we got over 10 million illegal’s in this country doing jobs that the unemployed won’t do and in some cases taking billions of public services supposedly.
So here my question, what if the unemployed did the jobs the illegal’s were doing and the illegal’s went back to where they are legal, for a country as broke as our, how many billions would that save. And with this savings what if some of which was directed towards people who really need help, the handicap, afflicted or unable to help themselves because of things out of their control, wouldn’t that be a better deal than the one we have now?

Afy misdirecting the issue again. Republicans bringing in foreign nationals (legally or through failure of enforcement, otherwise) to take US jobs is nothing new. Same old same old. The relevant question is why.
So how is a company off shoring jobs any worse than undocumented workers taking jobs (supposedly) from citizens? The undocumented worker is just trying to feed his or her family. The scumbag unAmerican CEO flushing jobs overseas while taking subsidies and loop holing their way out of taxes is gaming us all. Guess which one I would deport.
Sorry, I messed that up. that should have read “how is an undocumented worker supposedly taking jobs from citizens any worse than a CEO offshoring jobs.”
“Congress has the opportunity to pass a bill that could open up countless jobs for unemployed American minorities. It would require that all U.S. employers use the E-Verify program.
E-Verify quickly identifies people illegally working here and protects jobs for American workers. It will especially benefit unemployed minorities….
The facts show that E-Verify benefits minority workers by opening up jobs, increasing wages and reducing job competition by wiping out an illegal workforce.
For example, after illegal workers are arrested and detained during Immigration and Customs Enforcement worksite enforcement actions, many businesses replace them with American minorities…..
