Sen. Ericksen confirms interest in Whatcom County Exec’s job

Written by | The Bellingham Herald | May 26, 2011

From Stark

Just got off the phone with State Sen. Doug Ericksen, R-Ferndale. Speaking via hands-free mobile phone on his drive home from the grueling budget session in Olympia. Ericksen said he expects to decide by next week if he’ll be a candidate for Whatcom County Executive.

“I think there’s a pretty good chance,” Ericksen said.

He plans to spend the weekend relaxing with his family before making his decision.

He added that he was surprised when the incumbent, Pete Kremen, bowed out of the race.

Some of us go to college to study business, medicine, journalism, etc. & some government and some of us don’t go to college at all but all of us have the right to do what we feel we are best trained or qualified for to the best of our abilities.

Doug has been a very good represented for his district and that is why within his district both democrat and republican’s vote for him, because he has represented them well and that is why they supported his move to the Senate and will support his move to aother office.

Doug is a winner and the people love winners!

I understand that Doug went to college to become a politician. He obviously ignored the wit and wisdom of one of America’s great thinkers, Will Rogers, who said, “Be a politician; no training necessary.”

No that he will be the conqueror if he runs for Exec!

I have a lot of questions for any new Executive?

Does he or she plan to hand out the same fluffing to the building industry?

How many terms does he or she plan to serve before allowing new blood?

Does he or she plan to include diverse points of view in a meaningful way that lends dignity to opposing views?

Will our next executive be able to run the relatively small county on his or her own initiative and skill without hiring high priced staff?

  7. Pyewacket says:

Handing out fluffing to the building industry.. You mean like that huge lump of EDI cash that was “loaned” (pumped) into Ferndale (did you read the appeal letters?), supposedly to make housing more “affordable”?

Probably twice as much spending has been listed for parks and rec than for really serious projects, like the jail. The priorities in this county are definitely fluffed-up. Have you seen the December 2010 list that included a golf course and swimming pool for the east county?

More of the same, we do not need in an Executive or otherwise. I agree with you there.
