In this report from The Associated Press, Gov. Chris Gregoire and other state officials are starting to plan for the worst: the passing of the deadline for completion of a new state budget. That would likely mean financial gridlock for all state government functions except the state patrol and prison systems, the AP says.
But the state House and Senate have had a difficult time reaching agreement on a new budget, even though Democrats enjoy a majority in both chambers. Go figure.

Thank you, Democrats!
There is one fact that is true, the democrat’s since they are clearly in the majority in both houses & the gov’s seat; will and do own what ever is (or not) coming out of Olympia.

Gimme a break!
You two couldn’t mange a budget agreement if you were the King and Queen of Washington.
Splitting the few beans left to them by circumstances isn’t pleasant for any of em.
The other trouble is that one side’s agenda is served by governmnet shut-downs caused by the impasses they themselves promote and most people see that as bad faith negotiating.
So my law would be,
if a budget isn’t agreed to or even a debt limit ceiling,
everyone’s taxes automatically go up to cover any shortfalls,
and the representatives themselves would forgo their paychecks altogether.
Making stubbornness painful for the stubborn.
We spend more every year and the budget isn’t balanced; sounds like a spending problem to me, something the majority can own too.

Of course, silly me, it’s all Bush’s fault.
“Gregoire said both sides have been moving slowly and she’s noticed that they tend to hold sessions on different days.”
What’s that about?

Bwaakk Bwaaak! Spending problem Spending problem Bwaak Bwaak Bwaak!
Every budget must be balanced but
the revenue stream we depend upon to pay our bills is not reliable.
Most of our bills are non-negotiable in an ethical sense,
a safety sense and investment-in-the-future sense.
We have a revenue problem.
It’s not only the spending it’s also the give aways:
Over the next ten years, the state can expect to distribute over $427 million in gas tax money to Indian tribes – while the state transportation budget runs a billion dollars short.

If they don’t have a budget by 6/1, will they be breaking the law:
“Adoption of the omnibus appropriation bill or bills by the legislature shall constitute adoption of the budget and the making of appropriations therefor. A budget for state government shall be finally adopted not later than thirty calendar days prior to the beginning of the ensuing biennium.”

Is there room in the pen for all of them?
AFY!!theheelotsheepdog!!!
We sure wouldn’t want to honor obligations to the tribes from whom we have stolen this state while leaving them the short end of sin industries (tobacco, gambling and crap that goes bang on the day we celebrate our exploitation) let’s just screw everyone so we can make the Tea bangers happy……
Here’s a thumbnail on what’s happening in Olympia, the senate has reached a bi-partisan agreement on the budget but Frank Chopp speaker of the House is holding the state hostage because he ain’t a bi kinda guy, don’t ya know!
Methinks now that only one of them should be going to the pen if we don’t have a budget deal by 6/1!

Thanks for the concern, trolls.
@jared
Hey Jared. Read Initiative 1053 again. Then Google the difference between a majority vote and a two-thirds vote.
Apexnerd:
You addressed your comment to me but my co-blogger John Stark posted about the state budget.
Jared
You have a point there.
oops, I stand corrected.
a SHUT DOWN COULD BE GOOD?
