You’ve heard from Tim Eyman today, now here’s the Guv, via her campaign e-mail address they send stuff from every so often:
I wanted to take a moment and wish you and your family a very happy holiday season.Your support over the years, through both good and tough times, has meant a great deal to me and my family.
2009 has been quite a year. We have faced one of the most challenging economic times in decades, affecting each and every family in our state. Our community has been dealing with the tragedy of losing five police officers in the last few months and just this week another two officers were shot in the line of duty.
But through these difficult times, I have seen the citizens of our great state come together to help one another in amazing ways. This sense of community gives me hope for the future.
As we take time out to reflect and celebrate, we must remember that there remains great need in our community.
More families are struggling because of the tough economy and many will be turning to food banks and charities for support. Those food banks and charities need our help. Your gift of money or food will help them meet the needs of struggling families.
Second Harvest Inland Northwest (www.2-harvest.org) provides more than 1 million pounds of donated food each month to a network of neighborhood food banks in Eastern Washington and the Inland Northwest.
Northwest Harvest (www.northwestharvest.org) serves more than 300 food programs all across the state.
Food Lifeline (www.foodlifeline.org) fed more than 675,000 hungry people across Western Washington last year alone.
These organizations will put your donation to good use. And a small donation can make a big difference. A single dollar can provide three meals to a person in need. I encourage you to join Mike and me in donating food or money to one of these groups, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
Thank you for your support of our communities during the holiday season.

I drove by our local food bank to make a donation the other day and people were lined up down the block, waiting patiently for food. It’s too bad our capitalist system is so prone to recurring economic busts that cause such widespread misery. And, it’s too bad our democratic system doesn’t do more to ensure food security for our people.
These are tough times, and I would encourage Herald readers to do what they can to help our hungry neighbors.
