Gov. Chris Gregoire has declared today Walter Jones Day in Washington. Since our government got involved, I get the pleasure of posting a football-related story this morning for all of you. It’ll be one of the few I post, too, as it’s a short day for me (the wife and I go find out if we’re having a boy or girl later today).

For now, this:

Walter Jones, one of the greatest left tackles in NFL history, announced his retirement Thursday from the Seahawks.

And while that news came as no surprise, the Seahawks accompanied the decision with a statement that his number 71 jersey will be immediately retired as well.

Only two jersey numbers have previously been retired by the franchise: No. 12 for the fans and No. 80 for Steve Largent.

Additionally, Gov. Christine Gregoire declared April 30 Walter Jones Day in Washington in a salute to his career.

The full story about one of the greatest Seattle Seahawks ever, right here.

Walter will be missed but it does look like the Hawks had a very good draft for sure, a good start for Pete:

I like to tell people if it’s a girl: Ezrabet, if it’s a boy: Badger.

People don’t understand how great Walter Jones was - he redefined the position!

I have a girl - it’s great - I’m daddy fun guy and her mother has to teach her how to be a woman.
