« Gregoire budget will rely on $750 million in new revenue, $1 billion in cuts
Tonight: County Council reorganizes, selects committees »

State Republicans respond to governor’s budget speech

January 12th, 2010 1 PM PST by Sam Taylor - The Bellingham Herald

From Niki Reading at TVW’s The Capitol Record blog:

Rep. Richard DeBolt, at a Republican media availability, said he thinks it’s ironic that the Governor thinks creating government jobs will help rescue the state from the recession. He said private-sector jobs are the ticket to recovery. “We have to create revenue in the communities.”

“Unless we reduce government spending, we are not reforming government. It is as simple as that,” said Sen. Linda Evans Parlette.

    This one for you Todd:

“Let’s be honest here, Governor Gregoire: you are most of the problem. Our deficit problems were caused by you. And you knew it at the time. You said, several times, in previous State of the State addresses, that we needed to stop the cycle of spending during good times, followed by cutting essential programs and raising taxes during bad times.

But that’s exactly what you gave us: a state budget that increased 33 percent in your first term, and now we’re faced with billions of dollars in deficits.”

Of course your analysis is completely devoid of insight or reality regarding the general situation the entire country finds itself in or the voter ignorance that led dunderheads to vote for the Eyman initiatives that started the state down this ill conceived path. I’ll be you voted for every Eyman initiative didn’t you?

When someone starts with the “let’s be honest” obfuscation you can usually be sure they plan to be far less.

Find someone that parrots your own words and you’ve made a cogent point!
Too bad it really doesn’t work that way.
Our state is trapped in a regressive tax regime that rewards only consumer wealth and ignores all other funding realities.
So there’s no foresight available, especially on a biennium basis.
And then to have some Republican mouth the worn-out words of objection otherwise,
    is meaningless.
Whether you have occasion to repeat them or not.

If the gov had been more responsible on the spendin we wouldn’t need the fixin now!

She says she is cuttin spendin & she don’t, she says she is freezin hire-in and she don’t, so why now would we not question any thing she says!
