The White House blog has this post about plans to unload billions of dollars worth (they hope) of federal surplus property scattered around the country.
No, Obama didn’t write the post himself.
The White House also has an interactive map that shows a few scattered items in Whatcom County, including a 33,000 square foot “Station Building” in Blaine and 11 structures in the Glacier area.
It’s not immediately apparent exactly what these structures are. I’m guessing the Blaine one is border-agency related, but the Glacier things? Please share any info you have.
If they’d sell about half of what they own in Washington State, they would make a small dent in the deficit.
Next might be Nevada, then Wyoming, then all the rest of the states in the west where the federal Government owns land that it mismanages.
In the eastern US, the government owns far less land as a percentage of the whole, and the folks back there do just fine.
Maybe they should sell Yellowstone. Think of the revenue!
