DISTRICTWIDE ANNUAL AWARD RECIPIENTS
The district’s annual awards program recognizes the achievements and contributions of staff and volunteers. Anyone can nominate a volunteer or staff member for an annual award, with one person per school named in the following categories: Certificated Staff Member of the Year, Classified Staff Member of the Year, Staff Team of the Year and Community Partner/Volunteer of the Year. Nominations for Districtwide Leader of the Year were reviewed by a group of administrators who made the selection. A district Recognition Committee, including students, staff and community members, selected the winners. The photos seen below are from the Bellingham School District.
2010 Districtwide Certificated Staff Member of the Year: Kim Kirk, Sehome High School social studies teacher and department head, culminating project coordinator, professional learning community chair, girls basketball coach and volunteer assistant coach of fastpitch softball. 2010 Districtwide Classified Staff Member of the Year: Stephen Peters, Columbia custodian since 2004 and district employee for 20 years. He’s pictured with Acting Superintendent Sherrie Brown.
2010 Districtwide Staff Team of the Year: Whatcom Middle Sch0ol Secretarial Team: Joanna Cooper, Linda Erickson, Nancy Howell and Adele Pears. “We had many unsung heroes in the wake of the Whatcom fire, but we are very grateful for the effort, encouragement, flexibility, service, commitment and just plain hard work of Adele, Linda, Nancy and Joanna,” Whatcom staff and parents note. 2010 Districtwide Volunteers of the Year: Third Grade Conservation Site Fundraisers, Susan Hakeman, Heather Steele and Selena Storey, parent volunteers at Carl Cozier Elementary. Hakeman, Steele and Storey spearheaded the re-instatement of the Third Grade Conservation Site Program after it was eliminated from the 2009-10 district budget following last year’s state funding reductions. Each honoree received flowers, gift certificates, trophies and more, from program sponsors Sanitary Service Company, Vid-Smith Digital Video Production and the Bellingham Public School Foundation.
