Proposal: Tax millionaires to pay for Washington state education

Washington state Sen. Sharon Nelson, D-Vashon, wants to impose a 2 percent tax on the income of millionaires who live in the state to pay for education, with the priority of reducing class sizes in grades K-4.

The legislation, Senate Bill 6482, has been referred to the Ways & Means Committee.

    1. It’s an income tax and when it fails to bring the money in it will go to people making 750K then 500K then 250K …. until we will reach the 50K region in a few years.

    Then move to Texas. And enjoy the worst schools in the nation and one of the lowest private sector job growth states.

    You get what you pay for.

    The achievement effect of smaller class size is grossly overrated. While increased revenue is needed, this would hardly be the most effective use for these funds.

    The bill hasn’t even been scheduled for a hearing yet. Perhaps we can withhold the dire predictions and suggestions for emigration until the bill shows signs of gaining more traction?
